Charlie Watts not going on tour
https://www.foxnews.com/entertainment/rolling-stones-drummer-charlie-watts-sitting-out-tour
the show i have tickets for couldn’t be rescheduled and i admit this will help me cope with the disappointment but i hope he is ok. i think it’s likely they are done after this fall tour. seems strange nobody saw this coming. |
These guys are in their 80’s. It shouldn’t be a surprise. Face it, we’ll be posting farewells to a lot of our musical heros in the coming years. Bob Dylan, Willie Nelson, Mick Jagger (but not Keef), Eric Clapton, Paul McCartney and the list goes on.
|
i realize that and it’s why i always go to see all these guys but to announce this a week after announcing the tour is resuming seems pretty crappy. i love steve jordan but come on with the bait and switch
|
Can't believe those guys are still alive, much less touring...
|
Saw that. I saw the RS in Dalles a few years ago for the Lonesome and Blue (could have botched this name) tour
Wow. Awesome. A lifetime memory. |
saw the last two tours...absolutely amazing and for me very emotional...like watching a movie that brings tears. After the "Ladies and Gentleman the Rolling Stones" announcement and the band come out.....i wont deny getting a tear of joy or two (Tabs will be here soon when he wakes up to say the exile tour was the last good stones tour)
i think after this, they are no doubt finished. i feel very fortunate to have seen them 3 times starting with the 1989 tour |
one good thing that may come from this is maybe Keith will go out with Steve with the Xpensive Winos sometime soon....i would be into that for sure
|
I have tickets to the current tour only because I figured this was their last go. Didn't know Charlie wasn't going to be drumming. Feel fortunate to have seen the "complete" line-up with Wyman in '89 on Steel Wheels (which even then was being called the "Steel Wheelchairs" tour)
|
Charlie had a birthday a few weeks ago. The Sirius announcer mentioned it and that the collective age of the Stones was 308. Iknow Charlie has been doing a fair amount of jazz work recently. Just listened to Watts At Scott's over the weekend.
Lots of us are long in the tooth and have retired. Now it's time for our favorite musicians to do the same. I am glad that I grew up when I did and was able to see a lot of really good bands, including the RS at a 10K seat venue, Sheesh - RS, Who, Tull,Zep, Zappa, Dead to mention only a few of the acts that I was able to catch. |

The funny thing is, I never thought that the Stones were any good live, I love them in the studio, though, with all the help involved. I bought every album for decades. That said, I also think that they should have retired in about 1980 or '82. What they are doing now is pure pathetic. I wouldn't walk across the street to see them for free. |

I understand we are all entitled to an opinion but if you havent seen them since 1989 how could you make that conclusion? I saw them on the 1989 tour. The 2017 tour and 2019 tour were a thousand times better than that 1989 show, even with Bill on bass back then. Are you basing this on DVDs? Because I have every live DVD they ever put out and all of them from the past 25 years (and of course the older ones) are fantastic (except the crappy concert Scorsese shot) , especially the Hyde Park anniversary show from 2013. The band is tight as ever and not always playing with guitars out of tune like they used to with Mick Taylor. Geez, im extremely critical of shows, been playing guitar 35 years, consider myself a musician, going to concerts is what I do for fun instead of vacations, and there is hardly anyone (of the classic rock and rollers) i have not seen live and while I was expecting to be very disappointed, I was totally blown away by how good they played and how good they sounded...last 2 stadium shows I saw them, the sound was LOUD and very very clear and detailed. Mick sang as good if not better than ever and everyone played at the level of a true perfectionist, especially Ronnie...wish I could upload my video of Keith singing Happy at the Buffalo show in 2017, you might change your mind Your opinion sounds like Tabs who puts them down now but hasnt seen them in 40 years  |
if you woudnt walk across the street to see the stones for free you must have one hell of an exciting life or you truly hate them
|
I'm not into stadium shows ... period. That said... sometimes ya gotta do... so I've seen the Stones three times... the Voodoo Lounge tour simply rocked, and the last one I saw ('05 mebbe) at Duke's small stadium didn't suck. For some reason, I can barely remember the Steel Wheels tour show ....
I have a bazillion of their albums/cds .... my favorite band with a bunch tied for second :D. I would not go see a show now... but memories are great :) |
I wasn't much of a Stones fan until the Steels Wheels tour that I saw twice.
Mick was electrifying to watch bouncing around on the stage. Big fan now I can cross the street. |
Seen a few shows...
But it won't be same.. Be like looking at flat tired P... Almost complete... Rika |

I worked security at the Three Rivers Stadium show on the Steel Wheels tour. I got to sit in the front row of the empty stadium and watch the soundcheck. I was backstage for a lot of the time and saw all the Stones and Living Colour walking around. And I was part of the gauntlet they all run past on the way to their limos after the show. Very cool experience and I got paid for it too. Got free tix and backstage passes for Voodoo Lounge too, but got injured during the show and could barely stand or walk and just wanted to leave after that.

and from what ive seen of them recently, they have no reason to stop unless health prevents it. If they sounded like crap, i would say time to hang it up - but they dont sound like crap. they sound better than they ever did Same for Paul McCartney. Saw him 2 years ago. He was amazing and obviously having a great time doing it despite being ancient you think these guys need to work? obviously they dont i usually find your posts well thought out but this one, well its strange and judgmental...who gives a damn what jeans they wear? these guys aren't re-living their youth, they are musicians. they live to make music...if they cant do that then what is the point in living to them? you would think more of them if they just sat around their tropical villas (more than they already do) instead of playing their music for people? I guess BB King should have hung it up too? I guess Buddy Guy should just croak already? Should Iggy put his shirt back on and go live in a cave? Maybe Dick Dale should have dropped the act and hung it up 40 years ago? I for one thank god the Stones are still out there making the world a more interesting and fun place to be. The world has become a pile of ***** as far as entertainment is concerned. |
Another Last Tour (again)
|
haters gonna hate
|
It's gotta be tough to make a decision like that.
Not wanting to let the others down. An awesome career! |
If you mean me, I'm a lifetime fan and have been to every one of their concerts I could attend in US and or Europe. Can't believe they're still doing concerts at their age, and after their old lifestyle. Amazing! Likely will go to the concert in Vegas since my son lives there and has some contacts.
$$'s this tour is really high, but again this "may" be their last and final tour together. |
I've never been a huge Stones fan, although I really like some of their music - and I fully appreciate their long-lived legacy.
But what I really love to see more than anything is these musicians and recording artists who continue to perform. I know it's mostly because they love making music so much, although the income is probably it's own driving force as well. At this point - all bets are off as to how long the legends are going to last. We've lost so many great ones already. Keep on rockin'!!! http://forums.pelicanparts.com/suppo...ys/drummer.gif |
I was just watching this video yesterday and thinking this guy's got the right mind set.......

^^ yea sorry. thought you were a hater
i think this is it. I dont see Charlie coming back and Keith always said, when Charlie is done, he is done. If not for contractual reasons, I think they would be calling it quits now. I would be disappointed going and not having Charlie there but its better than nothing. Have fun. Report back how it was Quote:

RE: Stones sound better today — given the electronics today, everyone sounds better. No doubt they can still play good licks but any mistakes or out of tune get fixed live by the sound man and software.
And that's for our enjoyment. We don't need to tell someone to go home. They'll go home when they feel like it. |

And you can definitely hear Keith struggle with his arthritis live, he plays a ton of bum notes and has for many years.. you can hear it live....how he plays at all with those fingers i do not know http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1628195636.jpg |
It’s one thing to have abuncha geezers acting like rock stars.
It’s quite another having rock stars act like geezers. But geezer rocks stars? He!! yeah! |
btw Zeke, i generally don’t like stadium shows either. i’ve seen a lot of them. but i have to say that the PA systems used now, along with the software used to make adjustments in the mix in accordance with the unique acoustic properties of the venue have made a big difference. two notable shows recently have been both Stones shows at Buffalo bills stadium and new jersey stadium and U2 in cleveland. i left saying wow that was great. this along with the huge screens made it more than acceptable compared to even the 1990s. and way better than the 80s
the gap between the performer and your ears and eyes has been significantly reduced with technology what i find is the biggest turn off with stadiums is having to climb all the stairs that are practically vertical. this is no fun at all for me if my seats are off the floor |
vvv Well done. The Rolling f'ing Stones. AM/FM in the 60's in Cali, KRLA. Why not tour? I plan on living my life to the fullest every day until it ends.

^^ yea he does. he did an amazing job with The Last Waltz but i didn’t like Shine a Light at all.
|
The Stones (and Aerosmith) should have stopped around 1980

Rock on Keef :) |
An 80 year old drummer is the same as a great , great grandpa.

I went to see them in '96 just as seeing history. I wanted to be able to say that I saw the Rolling Stones. Joanna and I had the last row at Dodgers Stadium. We both were sceptical
We are both fans now. In 2006 we saw them in Las Vegas. And again had bad seats. Joanna was in a wheelchair for her first time in public. We got spotted by the ADA crew and got escorted to the handicap seating. Stage right, 20' higher than the stage it was incredible We have tickets for the LA show. The Handicap seats that we can afford arr plenty far from the stage but we are both excited to get to see them again. Will it be the last time? I hope not but I am realizing that they might not be here much longer |
The RS put on a slick show..i think they as of late they are playing with some juice again.
But nothing compares to the howl from he11 69 tour.Their playing was on the edge and that was borne out at Altamont. They lost that edge at Altamont. Listen to the Second 69 Oakland show the LA show the Baltimore show and the movie Gimme Shelter which chronicals the MSG show and Altamont. Also.watch Rock And Roll Circus, 69 Hyde Park, and the Jumping Jack Flash promo.vids. There is an on the edge intensity that was lost after Altamont. In 72 they substituted energy for intensity and by 75 were bloated jet setters..although i liked the sloppiness of the playing as they meandered off script. Every tour since 81 has been a slickly staged entertainment extravaganza. As of late they are playing because they want to as they enjoy it..maybe they know their time is short. Thay is why they have more pedal to the metal |
