Charlie Watts not going on tour

the show i have tickets for couldn’t be rescheduled and i admit this will help me cope with the disappointment but i hope he is ok. i think it’s likely they are done after this fall tour. seems strange nobody saw this coming.

These guys are in their 80’s. It shouldn’t be a surprise. Face it, we’ll be posting farewells to a lot of our musical heros in the coming years. Bob Dylan, Willie Nelson, Mick Jagger (but not Keef), Eric Clapton, Paul McCartney and the list goes on.

i realize that and it’s why i always go to see all these guys but to announce this a week after announcing the tour is resuming seems pretty crappy. i love steve jordan but come on with the bait and switch

Saw that. I saw the RS in Dalles a few years ago for the Lonesome and Blue (could have botched this name) tour

saw the last two tours...absolutely amazing and for me very emotional...like watching a movie that brings tears. After the "Ladies and Gentleman the Rolling Stones" announcement and the band come out.....i wont deny getting a tear of joy or two (Tabs will be here soon when he wakes up to say the exile tour was the last good stones tour)

i think after this, they are no doubt finished. i feel very fortunate to have seen them 3 times starting with the 1989 tour

one good thing that may come from this is maybe Keith will go out with Steve with the Xpensive Winos sometime soon....i would be into that for sure

I have tickets to the current tour only because I figured this was their last go. Didn't know Charlie wasn't going to be drumming. Feel fortunate to have seen the "complete" line-up with Wyman in '89 on Steel Wheels (which even then was being called the "Steel Wheelchairs" tour)

Charlie had a birthday a few weeks ago. The Sirius announcer mentioned it and that the collective age of the Stones was 308. Iknow Charlie has been doing a fair amount of jazz work recently. Just listened to Watts At Scott's over the weekend.
Lots of us are long in the tooth and have retired. Now it's time for our favorite musicians to do the same.
I am glad that I grew up when I did and was able to see a lot of really good bands, including the RS at a 10K seat venue,
Sheesh - RS, Who, Tull,Zep, Zappa, Dead to mention only a few of the acts that I was able to catch.

Same. I saw the Rolling Stones every tour from '72 to '89, along with every Led Zep tour and every Who tour and everyone else even remotely worth seeing growing up. I was addicted to rock shows after seeing Sabbath when I was 12 or 13. I would have been 12 or 13 for that first Stones tour.

The funny thing is, I never thought that the Stones were any good live, I love them in the studio, though, with all the help involved. I bought every album for decades. That said, I also think that they should have retired in about 1980 or '82. What they are doing now is pure pathetic. I wouldn't walk across the street to see them for free.

I understand we are all entitled to an opinion but if you havent seen them since 1989 how could you make that conclusion? I saw them on the 1989 tour. The 2017 tour and 2019 tour were a thousand times better than that 1989 show, even with Bill on bass back then.

Are you basing this on DVDs? Because I have every live DVD they ever put out and all of them from the past 25 years (and of course the older ones) are fantastic (except the crappy concert Scorsese shot) , especially the Hyde Park anniversary show from 2013. The band is tight as ever and not always playing with guitars out of tune like they used to with Mick Taylor.

Geez, im extremely critical of shows, been playing guitar 35 years, consider myself a musician, going to concerts is what I do for fun instead of vacations, and there is hardly anyone (of the classic rock and rollers) i have not seen live and while I was expecting to be very disappointed, I was totally blown away by how good they played and how good they sounded...last 2 stadium shows I saw them, the sound was LOUD and very very clear and detailed. Mick sang as good if not better than ever and everyone played at the level of a true perfectionist, especially Ronnie...wish I could upload my video of Keith singing Happy at the Buffalo show in 2017, you might change your mind

Your opinion sounds like Tabs who puts them down now but hasnt seen them in 40 years

I'm not into stadium shows ... period. That said... sometimes ya gotta do... so I've seen the Stones three times... the Voodoo Lounge tour simply rocked, and the last one I saw ('05 mebbe) at Duke's small stadium didn't suck. For some reason, I can barely remember the Steel Wheels tour show ....

I have a bazillion of their albums/cds .... my favorite band with a bunch tied for second .

I would not go see a show now... but memories are great

I wasn't much of a Stones fan until the Steels Wheels tour that I saw twice.

Mick was electrifying to watch bouncing around on the stage.

Big fan now I can cross the street.

Heard that. IIRC, I saw Springsteen at the L.A. Coliseum almost 30 years ago. Imagine seeing a performer from 800 feet away and you'll know why I agree with you.

I worked security at the Three Rivers Stadium show on the Steel Wheels tour. I got to sit in the front row of the empty stadium and watch the soundcheck. I was backstage for a lot of the time and saw all the Stones and Living Colour walking around. And I was part of the gauntlet they all run past on the way to their limos after the show. Very cool experience and I got paid for it too. Got free tix and backstage passes for Voodoo Lounge too, but got injured during the show and could barely stand or walk and just wanted to leave after that.

why should they let it go? they enjoy it and they make a lot of money. i have zero doubt that the stones have a hell of lot more fun doing what they do than probably any of us

and from what ive seen of them recently, they have no reason to stop unless health prevents it. If they sounded like crap, i would say time to hang it up - but they dont sound like crap. they sound better than they ever did

Same for Paul McCartney. Saw him 2 years ago. He was amazing and obviously having a great time doing it despite being ancient

these guys aren't re-living their youth, they are musicians. they live to make music...if they cant do that then what is the point in living to them? you would think more of them if they just sat around their tropical villas (more than they already do) instead of playing their music for people?

I guess BB King should have hung it up too? I guess Buddy Guy should just croak already? Should Iggy put his shirt back on and go live in a cave? Maybe Dick Dale should have dropped the act and hung it up 40 years ago?

I for one thank god the Stones are still out there making the world a more interesting and fun place to be. The world has become a pile of ***** as far as entertainment is concerned.
