Makes a person feel old!

Went to Walmart for oil and filter for the Fit this am. Also went to the service desk for postage stamps.

I asked the 20-25 yo male, at the desk, for a book of forever stamps. I said I wasn't sure of how much a single envelope stamp goes for today.

He said "What?"..."We never sell anything but forevers" I laughed and said "There used to be choices according to what you were sending? (envelope, postcard, package etc)

He said he had never heard of such a thing as picking different values of stamps!
Has it been that long ago?

Hahah. I have no idea. We mail so little. I suspect we mail <5 envelopes a year. Anything else that we send via USPS usually results in me having to go to the post office and letting the person at the counter set it up.

I know that Forever stamps have been around fore..., uh, a long time. If most folks buy forever stamps, then you don't have to buy small denomination stamps due to increasing costs.

I feel like back in the day, the only time we had anything other than the current standard value was if the cost of mailing an envelope went up by a few cents, you'd buy stamps in that amount (a few cents) to enable you to use your existing roll/book.

Probably never composed, and sent a letter either.

I was having trouble with my sciatic nerve in my left leg earlier this summer. A friend told me to try these....

They seemed to help the sciatic nerve problem somewhat....I think it mostly just needed time to get better.
But what I really noticed was all the joints and muscles felt much better...esp in the am.
Bought it from Amazon. Not expensive.
I'm staying with it.

I was right. "The first Forever Stamp went on sale in April 2007 and it featured an image of the Liberty Bell. In 2011, all first-class one ounce stamps became forever stamps with the exception of stamps in coils of 500, 3,000, and 10,000"

^^^ But you could still purchase other stamp values...depending on what you wanted to send.
He was saying that he didn't know that there were other choices.

And an '07 stamp was .41. I'll bet the cashier didn't know additional oz.'s on a letter are $0.15 ea which is down from .21 from <2019.

That's a good brand that was recommended to me somewhere in the past. We have it for our pup too.

Seriously, who uses stamps in this day and age?
Do they actually still sell that stuff?

No it hasn't been that long. Not to long ago the PO switched to the machine that will weigh the envelope. If you do not have enough postage it will just print a single stamp for the correct shortage as opposed to placing five one cent samps. It's a few years now but not a decade.

Businesses.

Lots of invoices sent and received and paid for with a paper check. Lots of business require a lot of paperwork to get an invoice paid. Try working for a government entity as a customer. Doing work for the feds is a real pain sometimes. They sometimes require (gasp) us to send a FAX!

We have done some projects for a large state owned entinties with multiple departments. One department pays with a check, one pays with an electronic payment bank transfer only, and the other will pay with a credit card. The only method they don't use is cash.

So, hopw much is a "forever" stamp these days? I bought a potload of the 41 cent liberty bell forever stamps back when they first came out. Still using them....maybe around 200 left.

I still use stamps. There are bills I have that I'd rather mail a check than, have to fork over an expensive bs "convenience fee" for paying online.

As Glen stated previously with my business and also in my fire dept, there are a ton of things that still require physical paper to be sent.
