FireFox V 91 - UI changes
Don't install the newest version of FF (91) if you want to preserve the current look and feel of the UI in place!
V 91 removes the ability to keep tab folders, menu items and bookmark menus as they have been previously. The "new" look adds extra gaps and spaces everywhere! Bookmarks are no longer visible on a single page - you have to scroll down a list if you've got more than just few dozen. V 89 introduced these changes but you could undo them by altering the config settings for the "proton" design interface. With V 91 - they've removed this capability so without going through technical code changes using CSS - you are stuck!

It's like removing the headphone or USB ports..what were they thinking?
(there's probably a few Dilberts on changes for the sake of change)

v90 implemented some minor changes that I didn't really care for but aren't major irritations. Thanks for the info about the additional changes. FF keeps asking me about upgrading, and I've been hitting "remind me later".

My config was set to auto download/install the latest update - which happened on my PC this morning. After researching how to "undo" those proton changes and finding out that on V 91 they removed this capability - I reverted back and downloaded V 90.
I guess I'll stay with it until (?) they replace the option or revert back. Based on what I've read on-line, I'm not sure that is likely though. Maybe someone will add an extension that will fix it.

Well, I toggled the auto-install OFF this AM after reverting back to V 90.
Took a break after lunch to run an errand, powered the PC back up - and V 91 was installed again! ![]() I went back through the process again. I hope it "sticks" this time.

I haven't used this, but it may help.
How to Disable New “Proton” Firefox UI and Restore Classic Look https://geekermag.com/how-to-enable-new-proton-firefox-ui/ It looks pretty easy, and in my version of firefox, it looks like it is valid.

Steve,
The fix you linked to above works fine - but ONLY for versions before 91! The issue is that on V 91 - - that "fix" is no longer available. The Proton config is not an option you can disable. I'm had been running V 90 using that same exact set of instructions that I've used since V 89. That is why I reverted back to V 90 today.

Okay - I've still been running with Version 90 since this thread - and I disabled automatic updates. However, Firefox still goes out and detects I'm running an "old" version and bugs me with the "New version of Firefox is available - do you want to update?" prompts. Version 92 is the current version BTW.
So I've done some more investigation and you can disable these nuisance prompts by configuring the update policy using a .JSON file. The steps are here at this link - Option 1 is what I used and appears to stop the nuisance prompts! YMMV. https://www.journeybytes.com/disable-firefox-quantum-updates/ Option 1: Disable Updates using Enterprise Policy JSON 1. Open a plain text editor like notepad or notepad++ and paste the following code in it: { "policies": { "DisableAppUpdate": true } } 2. Save the file as a json file named: policies.json 3. Go to the installation directory of Firefox and create a new folder with the name: distribution. On Windows the directory is: C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox (x86) [if running 32bit Firefox in 64bit Windows] If you’re using a portable version of Firefox the directory should be: FirefoxPortable\App\Firefox FirefoxPortable\App\Firefox64 [if using 64bit Firefox Portable] 4. Now just copy the policies.json file into this folder.

I'm on FF 92. I haven't had a problem with it. The changes didn't seem that big to me.

Get off my lawn!

I am about ready to dump FireFox. It thinks I am an idiot.
I tried to go to a web site that is a customer's web page for his flight school. He does not sell anything on line so it is not a secure site. Firefox would not let me get to it. I have to use Edge. Next I went my very own OneDrive site to download a large file. FireFox bailed out and crashed every time. Once again Edge came to the rescue. I have used FireFox for years, but it may be going away soon.
