Is There A Monster In My Yard?

So I capped this pipe…
Before a famiky reunion last month I had to put in a little bit of an access road to get to where we wanted our taco guys to set up. I needed to move and cap a pipe, and I left it sticking up above grade so I wouldn’t lose track of where it was. Then the other day I noticed something odd while the citrus tree were being watered:

So I have to ask, what kind of “monster” (my wife’s word) is living in our back yard?

That’s 3/4” sch 40 PVC, with a very thick cap on it. What animal would do this/leave these marks?

You can see I’m the pic above whatever it was got all the way through. Can it tell there’s water inside?

I live in suburban LA, kinda rural but many houses nearby. We have quite a bit of citrus so we see tree rats from time to time. And of course there are plenty of coyotes around.

Thoughts from the PPOT braintrust?

Those are skinny teeth. I'm guessing a rat.

Its been hot here, don't be so cheap Dave. Give your animals or rats some water to drink instead having to chew their way through the cap just to get a drink. On second thought, some poison will keep this from happening.

Speaking of which, I am dealing with gofer issues at my rental. I am about to blow up the while hill side jsut to kill the one mofo.

You do know gophers are food when they destroy your yard.

What your trick? I have never had to deal with them. If my tree hugging neighbors fine out I used poison, They will come down and lynch my ass in a heart beat.

My wife has cats so I haven’t tried poison. I have tried flooding them, gassing them, etc - all to no avail. So far the cats have killed at least 3, and I have offered a $20 a head bounty to anyone working here who kills one (but I’m only out $20.)

I hear that traps are best but I ha EMT ventured down that road (hole?) yet.

Those lil' fkers are boring holes very near the edge so it sped up erosion of a couple feet of soil.

I am not there all the time, but have never seen one, not one all day when I was working on the place over the period of several days. Maybe I need to cap off some water to attract them.

Here, squirrels will chew through pipes to get to water.

Put a motion detector outdoor camera next to the pipe, and you will know soon enough what the monster looks like.

Could be rats or squirrels. Some folks like to call squirrels "rats with bushy tails."

It was likely a snake, a copper-headded-rattle-moccasin with a coral tip.

Looks like rodent teeth marks. Strange it would chew through that cap.
