The future of cars.

Often the Mercedes S class cars are the first to have new features and equipment that later trickles down to all makes. Keyless Entry, and ABS and so on.

Here is the new Mercedes all electric car. Every possible gizmo and feature.

I am guessing 250K base price and I have not looked it up.

And no, I will not be ordering one. It is really cool.

Best guess is around $110-180K, depending if it's a 450 or a 580 and options. No good numbers yet.

The Motor Trend 2022 cars issue just arrived. To answer the post title? The future of cars? Grim...

Saw nothing in that issue that would prompt me to visit a dealership.

Pretty car. Price I'm guessing north of $180K

Future of the car?? Electric, self driving and expensive. Auto loans over 8 yrs in length

I like the interior, but the exterior just looks like a big Honda Accord…That is the problem with optimized aerodynamics, all cars will have the same shape.

I guess we'll differentiate them from how fancy the wheel covers are.

Hi tech, no soul.

The consequences of aerodynamics and wind tunnel testing - everything looks alike. Add to that the safety, fuel economy and other regulations set by government.

I'd hate to sit in the back seat. I bet the hase of the window would be at ear level. The front wouldn't be much better, maybe shoulder level.

If battery capacity and/or charging infrastructure reach a certain point, efficiency may no longer be such an imperative and designers may be able to pen distinctive cars again.

Expanding on this: EVs have very low cost/mile, so once the range challenge is conquered, ultra-optimized aero shapes will no longer be needed. EVs also have very flexible packaging.

That Shape makes front and back windows a pain to clean...at least for this old geezer who isn't as flexible as he once was. Funny how you notice things like this only after you buy the car.

What if a dealer service department sticks a pool table in their customer waiting room?

Only three, but the one in the front is a big mutha.
Far more significant will be the ability of the passengers to listen to their own media through Bluetooth.
Also, the car's capability of recognizing the driver and adjusting the driving dynamics.

Best

Did anyone notice the car's behavior in the exterior footage as it went over bumps on the highway? The chassis wasn't pitching (or rising and falling in front then in the rear), but was rising and falling on an even keel. I know S class has had active suspension for a while. I believe this is the first time I have seen the effect in a video.

It looks like a great car concept but I really don't want to own one.

With all of those gizmos, how long before something really expensive stops working?

Shhh. We're not supposed to think about that.
