MLB, less than 30 games to go....

My Doyers be in 1st, tied with them asswipe Gigantes in the NL west. Them and the Rays have the best record in Beisbol.

Big Asswipe Gigantes fan here; well, still pull for them. Baseball left me, I didn't leave baseball.

Anyway, Dodgers suck, so do you.

My biggest problem with the Dodgers was growing up near LA. I went to a lot of games at Chavez Ravine as a kid.

I still remember playing catch with Wes Parker in my LL Uni when I was 11.

What an Asswipe:cool:

Joe Bob 09-05-2021 11:19 AM

My Dadz worked for a company that had box seats four rows up from the first base dugout. I saw tons of hall of famers in their decline as he got the sucko tixs that the execs higher than said NFW.

Still saw the longest running infield, Koufax, Drysdale, Valenzuela etc.

Giants and Roseboro incident. uglee The Doyers even signed the asswipe that pitched for them....took me a minute, Juan Marichal.

biosurfer1 09-05-2021 11:22 AM

Time to see if the Dodgers can buy another ring. Losing to the Giants all season? Just spend another $20 mil at the trade deadline... It's only money!

TEAM TOTAL PAYROLL
1. Los Angeles Dodgers $194,839,000
2. New York Yankees $179,040,714
3. New York Mets $166,904,168
4. Los Angeles Angels $162,193,094
5. San Diego Padres $153,220,000
6. Houston Astros $150,300,833
7. Boston Red Sox $147,870,000
8. Washington Nationals $147,841,575
9. Philadelphia Phillies $139,665,962
10. San Francisco Giants $137,222,777

Joe Bob 09-05-2021 11:28 AM

When the O'Malley's owned them they had a great farm system. Since then the new owners throw money.

Since all pro sports are whores and pimps. I support none but root for a few.

BTW, the Yankees suck too.

biosurfer1 09-05-2021 11:32 AM

Meanwhile the Cleveland Traffic Statues have a payroll of $23.5 mil...only $170 million behind the top spot!

I was in the cheap seats, but the stadium made it easy to see the game.

When I was 12, LL day, we were in the upper deck behind home plate, three or four rows off the edge.

We all made paper airplanes from the official program. One of mine flew along the lift along the first base line, banked over the field behind first and came in over the pitcher and landed, I kid you not, on home plate.

Ump had to call time.

I remember it like yesterday.

At Candlestick, the same paper airplane would have caught a 60 knot wind, flown to flight level 18, iced up, stalled and plowed into a spectator. :D

I wouldn't doubt it. I attended a giants game at that God awful park once when a dust devil deposited the opposing pitchers hat into the stands. Both teams were laughing so hard the ump called a time out

Not any more. There's only one team in first in the NL West and one team with the best record. Go asswipe Gigantes! I think I saw Ben Stein in the stands saying:

It ain't over till it be over....

DonDavis 09-06-2021 07:06 AM

I ain't got no prob with the actual LA Doyers players or team. It's the completely unhinged ass wipe fans that are the worst.
And for the record, I'm not lumping Joey Bob in that group, I'm sure he's great to shoot the breeze with and all. SmileWavy

As much as I'd love to visit Chavez Ravine and have a Dodger Dog, no way I'll set foot in that place.

Yeah, yeah...my loss. But somehow, I sleep just fine.

Oh yeah, Go Giants!

Arizona has had a rough season, for sure. Just uncanny how bad it's been.

mattdavis11 09-06-2021 07:20 AM

Donny, Bubbi...make the trek:cool:

Another quick Sea Story.

Another upper deck day at the Ravine...I am sitting beside and older man in a Giants hat one row off the rail (I remember these things)...after a few minutes he knows I am a Giant fan.

On Willie McCovey's second at bat, the old guy next to me, who was keeping score (baseball fans will know what I am talking about), says, "I'll bet you 25 cents Mr. McCovey hits one out this at bat".

I think I had a dollar on me.

"Ok." Please, I knew odds even then.

Two pitches later Willie is rounding the bases at a trot.

I know there is supposed to be a, "here, Kid, here's your money back" moment.

Nope.

Love the Ravine.

Complicating factor for me is I admire Max S., who I saw pitch twice at Nationals Park...he is a great baseball player in all connotations of the term.

Max came up with the Diamondbacks. MLB debut outing he threw 5 innings of perfect ball. I figured then he'd be special.

They let him go because of concern of his, in their terms, "violent delivery and head snap".

So bummed to see him go.

Then Bauer came up. Saw him pitch once. Arrived early to see his pregame routine.
He was throwing from deep left to right field from almost the foul line.
Whacky dude. We'll see what the investigation turns up.

Oh yeah, go Giants!

That is cool re Max. He is just, and you know this, the calm in a storm, a great baseball player.

Go Giants indeed.

I have been invited to Oracle Park a number of times...I need to just go do it.

Dooo eeet.

I saw Lincecum pitch there against the Mets in '09. Amazing baseball setting/venue/vibe/garlic fires...all of it.

We were sitting just past 1B, about 30 rows up. His delivery made him look only 3' high as the ball left his hand. IIRC, his stride was ~130% of his overall height. Just a big slingshot.

3rd_gear_Ted 09-06-2021 10:04 AM

I got Shoei Ohtani's autograph at his introductory press conference @ the Big A after an AX event i attended.
43 homers, hit ball speed records, 20 stolen bases and pitches @100 mph.

Joe Bob 09-06-2021 10:07 AM

Good score, have you found any of his rookie cards? Get as many as you can and then seal them in jewel cases.

BTW, Joe Bob, thanks for a baseball thread. I mean it.

Lincecum reminds me of a guy I played with at Newbury Park in California, just without the fastball.

He did, however, have pitches with more angle than the Pythagorean theorem.

He taught me how to throw a knuckle curve and a knuckle ball, neither of which was of any use until I started pitching in over 40 hardball.:cool:

Joe Bob 09-06-2021 10:23 AM

My Dadz tossed me a knuckle ball when I was 11. I saw it coming in and thought WTF is that......I stepped aside and let it hit the dirt. Kinda like a lot of catchers do.

I'd have to guess but Phil Niekro is way up there on passed balls.

You've never been there? As my kids would say, that's whack. I didn't wait long; I went to the very first game there with my Dad. Alas, the Dodgers swept the Giants. Not a good start, but it's an amazing ballpark. You must go.

gregpark 09-06-2021 12:35 PM

I haven't been to every ball park in the land but been to plenty. Oracle is hands down the coolest I've seen. Located inside of an iconic city with sky scrapers in view, a home run can end up in SF bay, a spectacular design with all the modern high tech amenities. It's got it all including a great team. It's a must go if you're a baseball fan

Joe Bob 09-12-2021 12:16 AM

2.5 back. Even if they don't win the west they'll make the playoffs.....unless they fall on their asses.

ZOO 09-12-2021 02:53 AM

It's been a terrific month to be Blue Jays fan . . .

The Dodgers are 15 games ahead of the next wildcard team, the Padres. With 19 games to play. It may be mathematically possible for them to miss the playoffs, but in reality, it's essentially impossible.

I hope the Dodgers win their 1-game playoff. A Giants-Dodgers 7-game series would be epic.

Followed by a Giants-Yankees World Series. We need payback after 1962.

ckissick 09-30-2021 08:12 AM

Four games to go. When I went to bed last night after the Giants won 1-0 and the Dodgers were losing 9-5, I thought we had it made with a 3-game lead. Nope. Both teams refuse to lose.

This is great for baseball. Most of the other races are incredible as well.

My favorite sport to play.

Joe Bob 10-01-2021 05:25 AM

Well, 3 games left against the Brewers....2 games back. Brewers have clinched their division. Will they roll over for the boys in blue?

Still a chance.....otherwise a one game play off against the Cards.....at least it will be a home game.

No way will the Brewers let up. They may very well face the Dodgers in the playoffs and want to assert their dominance now. Also, the Dodgers are the last team anyone wants to face in the playoffs. To avoid that, it's best to force them to play the Cards in a one-game playoff. I'm liking the Giants chances.

red-beard 10-01-2021 11:45 AM

We shall see....

Doyers take 2 out a 3. Cancel Cards.

Yes you do, it is a beautiful ballpark

I was at the first WS game after the earthquake in 1989. As Rickey walked to the plate, I told my bro that no one had ever led off a WS game with a home run. 2 minutes later Rickey hit one in the seats 5 rows in front of us.

Sort of freaked him out a little bit

It is gonna be great: Lots of firsts in this series.

Games on late here so I'll have to DVD the 3rd inning on.
