That car may have been at my driver's school at Riverside in 1972. Shared a garage with a guy we nicknamed "Fast Eddie" who owned the car. He was having a great amount of trouble all weekend getting the motor to run right. Back then I think the twin-cam of the day came out of a wrecked Lotus Cortina and prolly made 140 h.p. My FF, which was a LeGrand Mk10 prolly made about 103 h.p. (original Cortina, not the later "uprated motor).

Red LeGrand became a good friend of mine from that time until he died in 1988. He had shops at his house, then North Hollywood, then San Fernando, and finally Willow Springs. His last project was rebuilding a BeeDee 5 airplane and lengthening it 18 inches to accept a turbo-charged bike motor, effectively doubling the horsepower. He was a blacksmith at heart and tremendously talented. He did not suffer fools gladly, but he was a good friend and taught me a lot about race car design, alignment & maintenance.

Anyway, he didn't build many FB cars so there's a good chance that's the one. Haven't seen it for almost 50 years. Have fun with it.

Yes that fits the persona of Red that I’ve learned - one of the reasons I purchased his car - have become fascinated by his story. Appreciate anything else you could share!

Although this is not the car at the drivers school with you…this one has never turned a lap. It is a NOS 1967 race car originally purchased by the Team Lotus teammate and business partner of 1967 Formula B champion Gus Hutchinson. If all goes well it will complete shakedown laps this coming Friday. Seems to be accepted that six were built in total.

Super cool. Have fun. I ran a Lotus 22 for years some time ago and always lusted for a FB car. Was actually watching the Monoposto group run at Road America Sunday and watched Geoff Brabham lead start to finish in a BT-35. I had no idea he was vintage racing. The number two guy was right there with him though. Not bad for an amateur.

My uncle, who raced Formula Atlantic with all the big names in the 70's, got his FB start in a LeGrand Mk5. I would love to have that car. It is currently in SoCal converted to F3 specs and NOT for sale. Some day maybe...

I just found the "sold" ad for this car. Wow, what a significant car. Congrats on the great purchase. Al James of the LeGrand Registry is the owner of my uncle's car.

That is just awesome! Enjoy it and drive it hard!

I race old (and new) Porsches on SVRA, HSR and IGT.

Hope to see you out there.
