Favorite knife, what's yours

Girls collect shoes.
Guys collect knives.

My favorite is my mother's Gurka knife she got in WW2 from India. It has two small throwing daggers also in the Elephant hide scabbard.

My wife wants to remarry again for some girl type reason. I said YES, if we go to India. Have you ever seen the size of the sword you wear during the ceremony.
Do you get to wave it at your In-laws????

FYI, here is the KA-BAR story that I wasn't aware of

need pics of the gurka.

I've got a several, my favs are various Benchmades. I've carried almost all of them daily at some point. I've got a couple that I bought because I wanted and haven't carried more than a couple of times. I'm sure that I'd love to have really expensive stuff, but that co$t$, so I don't even look.

Vash's post of the Benchmade Bugout prompted me to get one and now i have the standard size and the mini. Fantastic knife that you forget is in your pocket.

And **** on Benchmade for destroying all those guns.

But darned if the Bugout isn't a near perfect knife.

CR small Sebenza. Tasteful, not "tac-bro" but it gets it done.

Most disappointing? MKT Praetorian, the little one. Yah it's big and will bust your window in but as a blade? Seems soft, won't make an edge and certainly won't hold one. Mine was gifted from a "guy" in the military that we train on stuff. I use it to impress other knife-bros and to break down cardboard for recycling.

sorry? hahah..i want the mini. but i think i will buy the Mini Osborne instead.

and as far as the gun thing..i thought they were just destroying confiscated guns taken legally. kinda like the car crusher pushing a 1969 camaro into a cube or the Feds shredding out of date cash. no big. there are plenty more of all.. i didnt get excited about it.

Swiss army knife. I have a pile of them. I like the locking blade ones for hunting (often breaking down big game animals). For hiking and fishing I go down a size for weight. The steel is good, they are easily visible when dropped, come with small scissors and tweezers which you would have to carry separately otherwise. Also, nobody will ever accuse you of carrying a weapon when you bring your swiss army knife.

Interestingly, a "hunting knife" often is something huge. Generally only needed if you kill the animal with it by stabbing it in the heart, which not commonly done. For your average deer or bear hunt, all you need is a small blade and know where to cut. I can unzip and put a big game animal in my pack in 1h on the ground and be on my way. A little longer if I leave all the bones and the hide is kept.

This Buck knife on the top with the titanium handle is my favorite but not the one I carry daily.

I’m afraid that my favorite knife nowadays is the blade on a multitool.

I only have one knife anymore, not counting kitchen stuff.

It is a switchblade that I bought in Florence 30 or so years ago. It fits in a pocket, opens, pokes holes in stuff and sort of cuts maybe.

Other than that, gotta have the wrench, pliers, drivers, etc.

I've been using an Opinel for a while now. Razor sharp & reasonably priced.

I got one of the carbon steel models that looks like the one in your post but with natural color handle for <$20 on Amazon.

I don't think I'd carry one in my pocket, but they are great little knives.

vash 09-30-2021 07:56 AM

I don’t have a favorite anymore. Pocket knives- I rotate between 4 now.

For the past two weeks it has been “ old school “. Soon it will be a Swiss army, simply so I can open holiday beers. :)

I bought mine from a gourmet deli. ($25 AUD from memory)

We can't carry knives in Aus but I keep it handy.
