Stephanie, how many patients do you normally carry in the ICU? In your post you said three. My wife is a ICU nurse with over 40 years experience, but is just getting back into the game after a few years of management. She’s told them she will not take more than two patients, because it’s her license on the line if something goes sideways.

On a sidenote, she said five patients died of Covid in the ICU yesterday.

Edit: after reading Leaky’s post, my wife has said nurses in the ICU have been quitting in droves due to burn out. It’s been a constant turnover.

I am a dentist, but work next to two local hospitals in two different zip codes. Many of my patients are caregivers at the hospital. Some, in ICU. They are telling me that on this go around, the ICU load is increasing, and shifting towards younger, healthier, college age kids. According to them, the older population has been vaccinated. The younger, college students (in the college town), and the middle age unvaccinated (in the blue collar valley town) are now getting the brunt. That's two different hospitals of anecdotal fwiw. According to the college town, the ICU is running fuller than it was during the first wave. Burnout is a real issue. Also, the issue of dealing with asymptomatic covid+ leads, which can't be held in the general population for concern of exposing covid- patients. I have had one staff member of each of my workplaces test positive in the last two weeks due to off work encounters.

I am about his age and have lost a lot of friends the last couple of years. None to COVID, but gone just the same. One I had not seen since '77...and ran into them a few weeks back when visiting. She seemed happy and healthy and had moved back to my hometown to hang out with her mother (who is still alive). She died 3 days later of a massive coronary. Her mom has buried her and her two younger brothers (long ago)...as well as her husband. The mom has one younger daughter left...I guess to bury her. It is pretty tough. Sure makes you feel a bit less invincible and a bit thankful/mindful of your own heath.

My 75 yo MIL got it. She went to get her hair did on a Friday. The stylist bragged he was vaxxed, MIL is not. She caught covid from him.

On Monday she felt like crap, she went to a drive up testing site. They turned her away, they met their daily quota.

She was annoyed and did not go back Tuesday. On Wednesday she felt worse and got tested. Covid.

She called my wife with the bad news. My wife td her to hold tight. She went to the medicine cabinet, grabbed a sleeve of Ivermectin, its right next to the Asprin we use off label as well, and ran it over to her with instructions.

We were already 3 days behind (because of quotas) but fingers were crossed. She started taking it Wednesday, we had instructions on what doses to take each day.

Friday she calls me wife and says she feels 100x better and tells my wife to take the rest of the sleeve back. My wife insisted she finish the course as outlined. MIL did just that.

Wednesday the week after she retested, and negative.

She never stepped foot in a hospital, they would have killed her.

I was pissed she waited 3 days, all because only so many tests per day.

Thank God we were able to get to her in time.

One thing I learned in 2004 when 2 hurricanes hit me back to back. You are on your own, make sure you can take care of yourself when the government collapses in your community. Mine did in 04, it was the best thing that ever happened to me. It forced me to think differently and be way more self sufficient.

KC- sorry about your friend, that sucks. No one deserves to die like that.

Damn, I am sorry for the loss of your friend. I just recently as of last week had an Uncle who passed away from this damn virus. My uncle was 65 years old, and he was layed to rest yesterday. Prayers for you and your family and friends family.

So sorry KC. I've lost a few of my "runnin' buddies" over the years. You can always think back on the good times.

I was listening to an interview with Willie Nelson and he brought up his longtime drummer Paul English. He talked about the song he had written saying that losing someone is "not something you get over, but something you get through".

But I always preferred the song he wrote about his time with his friend. RIP Robbie.

Very Sorry for your loss KC. I caught covid about a month after a good friend caught it. I feel extremely fortunate, I spent a couple days in the hospital and went home to recover. My friend ended up on a ventilator for 2 months and didn't make it.....this was all pre vaccine.

It is in pill form, I have sleeves of them from the pharmacy, 6 MG and 12 MG, I have about 40 of each.

When I read that Mexico City and India rolled out an Ivermectine protocol and eradicated Covid, I got a script for it and got it filled.

This was way before Joe Rogan recovered in 24 hours, and before the entire MSM went nuts and tried to discredit it as horse dewormer.

I had my doubts it would work, mostly due to the non stop campaign to discredit its effectiveness. Recently Japan rolled out the same protocol as Mexico City and India with huge results, hospitalizations dropped 75%.

This entire deal with my MIL was 3 weeks ago, when I heard she had it, we were panicked, we told her and my FIL to get vaccinated they are both high risk but my FIL has in his head that he does not trust it and my MIL is following his lead.

I will say this about both of them, they are both in the late 70's and both take zero medication and are in perfect health. They take very good care of themselves. They always have, my MIL used to be a body builder and competed in her 50's.

I got her into weight training when I met my wife. I was just a gym rat she took it to an entire other level. The woman is a pisser. Best in laws a guy could ask for.

I am not in the ICU. I am currently in my last semester of Nursing School. Last week I was assigned to a step-down unit so I see only the people who recover. That being said: Step down nurses are assigned 5-6 patients a day with nurse techs covering 15-20 rooms.

On the Covid unit in the hospital I am doing rounds, the nurses are working in teams of 2- one garbed up and one runner, switching jobs every 2 hours and they have 3 patients usually.

Burn out is real and the job is hard. That is why at the hospital I am in they take volunteers to go to the covid floor for 6 week stints and rotate nurses from other floors just for the day.

That’s good planning, I congratulate you for your forethought. Couple questions. How did you get a prescription for it? How did you get that many sleeves? Are the two dosages for different weights, should I assume the 12 mg one would be for a typical adult male? If you don’t want to reply publicly, a PM would be appreciated.
