That is no airplane, no jet, no balloon, no copter, nothing, its a genuine rocket with a capsul. It could blow to bits like the first practical rocket the Vengance 2,you do see that they are sitting on a bomb. A-ticket ride at a county fair, Puhleese, its the real thing. Dont compare a rocket-missle to an aircraft because it ain't. Shatner was brave at 90 years old, others would have pooped their depends. Yeup its a short ride, but for bravery its the bees knees. Props to the Captain Bill Shatner for visiting the final fronteer and boldly go in a real rocket. I hope Bill talks about his fun experience on a talk show or his own tv series.

The View?

Good for him at 90 to not just sit on the couch and wait to die. Personally never did get the whole Sci-fi thing, lost in space, Star trek, Area 54, ET, etc. I did like the Jetsons though.

I do remebr seeing the capsules splash down as a kid and loved the space shuttles and going to air shows. But I have no interest in what these people are doing.

Shatner has had his ups and downs, it hasn't all been cake. After Star Trek ended Shatner found work hard to come by in the early '70s and was briefly living out of the back of his camper/pick-up. It's all been up hill for him since then. Good for him.

Yeah, I think he also found his wife dead in a swimming pool. Not all good times, yet he overcame adversity. I figure the stress from all my life's challenges will have me dead long before then. Good to see it doesn't have to be that way. Reminds me a bit of (I think) Roy Rogers, who started talking about all his kids that died over the years. I would have been total basket case.

Shatter also suffered from tinnitus. I don’t know of it has resolved but he said he contemplated suicide at one point.

I wasn't comparing the rocket to an airplane.
William Shatner was in one the most epic Twilight Zone episodes of all time where he freaks out on a plane when he sees a creature out on the wing tearing things up and I was just making a reference to that.

I think it is fantastic that he got to go up and experience the thrill ride of a lifetime, and at his age it is truly incredible!!! I hope that I live to be 90 but I know I would never do anything as terrific as what he has done.

By the way, John Lithgow played the character in the remake of the episode entitled, "Nightmare at 20,000 Feet", in "Twilight Zone: The Movie". If you haven't seen either you should check them out.

There is another one I'd like to see in space. Right now he's living rent-free in Ottawa.
