Just to keep the hijack going (sorry), this is a repost but it gives a great feel for just how fast these cars are. This one is an alcohol dragster, slower than top fuel:

this is a good helmet cam vid:

Re the TF helmet cam.
This is life.
Being successful at doing the thing means that preparing to do the thing takes a lot longer than actually doing the thing.
(so they tell me)

BB Chevy crate motor that makes over 1000 hp? Tell me more! Tell me more!

sammyg2 10-20-2021 11:24 AM

BTW top fuel dragsters have port and throttle injection and "semi" direct injection.
They have a series of injectors above the supercharger, below the supercharger, in the intake runners, and a series that shoots fuel directly behind the intake valves which could almost be considered direct injection as it squirts while the huge valves are open, essentially spraying directly into the cylinder.
Just not on the compression stroke like real direct injection.

LOL, if anyone with a CNC mill wants to make some coin: Just make copies of these valve covers.
betcha the wanna-bes with stock chebby big blocks would be lining up to buy em.
Until the GM lawyers find out :)

The Tesla Plaid would smoke this. [emoji38]

The
http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1634761958.jpg
does the quarter mile in 9.23 seconds.

A 1000 hp big block like this one in a car that has similar weight should do it in the low 8 second range for waaaay under $130,000 assuming you have the traction and it's well set-up.
For $130k I could build a 6 second car and have change left.

And you wouldn't have to plug it in or squat when you tinkle ;)

sammyg2 10-20-2021 12:40 PM

Another thing to ponder: this big block has a CR of 12 to 1 and can run reliably on 93 octane.

That means that with 118 octane racing fuel it could handle boost, say 8 or 9 psi from a turbo or supercharger, and make 1400 hp-ish.

Who wants to go first?

pavulon 10-20-2021 03:55 PM

It's interesting being a factory NA crate motor but 632" tall deck big blocks are not new and 1000 Hp isn't new anymore especially when a 4L TT Mercedes can be made to make the same power in a relatively docile street wagon that stops, turns and drives with luxury level comfort and reliability in a small package. A pressurized LS makes a lot more sense in every way unless mouth breathing and big bellys at car shows are your thing.

After looking at prices for adding power to my 3.2 , I'm thinking I'm gonna look into one of these to drop in, probably cost less. :D

Sadly, I've also never been able to experience a 911 at 8k rpm. Or maybe I should thank my lucky stars, no money shift.

Speaking of EV vs ICE. GrumpyCat just ran a 6.99 at 200mph. It is currently the quickest Hellcat VIN on the planet. Modified of course, but still based on a production car.

My question is how much would it take to get a Tesla Model S to run those numbers?

You need a modern 911 GT3RS to get there. The new 911 GT3RS spins to 9 grand so 8K is just there for a split second on the way to redline.

FIFY (for me really).

Yes! Yes, I do.

Honestly, I'm fairly certain that I'd be pleased as punch with ANY 911 GT3 of any
year or description as long as it was in good working order.

Wow, they are up to 9k now. I think a few years back they were 8200 and then maybe 8500. That's impressive since when the S2k came out, everyone went bonkers over it's 9000 rpm redline.

Nah. Just do a first, second, first shift when you were at redline in second and you'll get there and more! And you'll create a lot of tire smoke too! Wanna know how I know?

That would be an enormous undertaking IMO. The factory plaid isn't anywhere close.

I think it's harder than modifying an ICE car because of all the proprietary equipment.

If I had to do it, I would yank all the Tesla drives and motors and look aftermarket.

How much? The factory Ford electric Cobra Jet makes 1400hp and runs 8's. If a factory-backed effort is over a second slower...LOTS.

Edit: check that...1500hp at the wheels
