My fav burger hole in wall in San Antonio is Chris Madrid's, which has a slight Tex Mex twist on the burgers. I ran into Meg Ryan there back when she was married to Dennis Quaid and living near SA. Back then it was just a shack with about 15 seats.
They serve a bean burger, which is actually refried beans with the burger. Or the Flamin' Jalapeno aka, the Flamin' A S S burger. Also served is pico de gallo for putting on your burger. It makes the burger! http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1635959612.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1635959612.jpg |

Crystal City Sports Pub is a little (ok a lot) less polished but has killer daily deals. On 23rd St but across the highway from the hotels and the restaurant strip. Darn you all... now I need to make burgers for dinner - cast iron "beef chuck/lamb sirloin blend smashburgers" for this kitchen. |

Awesome tip. I will check it out when we get back. |

Most of the restaurants I’ve seen along the River Walk seem very tourist trappy. |

I don't know if the current situation has impacted them/their service Yes...making me hungry for a burger. |

How did this thread change into a Texas thread??
Is that where upscott is from? |
Been years since I have eaten anywhere along the River Walk in San Antonio. Usually find something up in the vicinity of the redeveloped Pearl Brewery area. Favorite BBQ is way up on Blanco just north of Wurzbach.

^^^ No problem. I just noticed every comment is from Texas.
Upscott doesn't have a location on his sig...... |
A lot of mine are about Albuquerque NM...and now DC. Sorry, I don't get out much.
|
^^^ keep commenting...I was just wondering.
|
Has anyone had a burger at Wahlburgers?
One just opened in my area. |

That’s the long and short of it. Of course, every one of these threads degenerates into “who’s got the best burger” and then that morphs into something entirely different, and here we are. |
^^^ Gotcha!
I also know that there are prob more Texans on this forum than anywhere else! |

California Mafia. |
^^^ lol
The Texans seem to make the most noise when it comes to food. |

There's a 5-guys at L'Enfant Plaza mall now, if you're into that. They really shined up the place - it was so grim ten years ago, like a fever dream from the 1970s. Don't miss it, though I could almost go for a "half-smoke roulette" at the street cart under the DOE arch. 99% of the time you're OK, 1% you're afraid that you're _not_ gonna die! |

Javadog recommended Whataburger in another thread. I, being from NorCal and not being a frequent traveler, had never had Whataburger. I thought I’d report back that it was indeed very good. I also mentioned that I had it in San Antonio while visiting my son who lives there. |
^^^ No problem here. Looks like I spelled your name wrong also....sorry!
|
I've never had a Whataburger, In & Out, Culvers, etc. They just aren't around here and I don't get out much :D...
For a burger ... local joints beat all the fast food places here, but Cook-Out is probably the best local "fast food chain" and Steak 'n Shake is good too.... All of them have suffered in consistency and quality recently .... even the local joints. |
OK all you SW'ers. Where are some good places to eat at Holloman AFB? Chain or otherwise. The daughter is heading there Monday.

Holloman is really in the desert. Easy trip up the mountain to Cloud Croft, NM, which sits at over 9,000 feet. We left El Paso at over 100 degrees and it was in the 70s when we arrived up in Cloud Croft. Also, very close to White Sands Natl Monument. Hatch chilis are the thing around that area. Grown in Hatch, NM. Used for everything, on burgers, enchiladas, eggs, pozole, you name it. Cattleman's is a famous joint outside of El Paso, so probably an hour from Holloman https://cattlemanssteakhouse.com/ |

I should specify that in AmeriCorps she is limited how far she can travel.
Fortunately for her, she is willing to try about anything short of balut. She has natto on the list of things to try if that give you an idea what she is willing to eat. |
Well, since you brought up balut, I don’t think anyone here ought to go look up what natto might be.
Yuck. |
I am just saying she has a limit. Not much of one, but she does eventually draw the line.

I’ll pass on the Natto. |
Natto or the Eraserhead baby. Take your pick.

Natto is delicious. sure it is like snot in consistency. But a pinch of natto with a pinch of rice. yum. breakfast!! I ate it 7 days straight at our Tokyo hotel breakfast bar. that first bite was a bit of a leap tho.
