Coins 1, 2, 3 on one side. 4 ,5, 6 on the other.

If ths scale balances the odd weight coin is in group 7, 8, 9.
If it doesn't balance it is in the light group.

Take the odd weight group of 3 and place one coin on each side.
If it balances then the light coin is the one not being weighed.
If it doesn't balance it is the light side of the scale.

Both of those were riddles from my time in Boy Scouts. Here is another simple one.

A man is transporting a fox, a chicken, and a sack of grain. He arrives at a deep river where there is rowboat that he must use to cross the river. The rowboat can only hold the man and one item. Without the man being present the chicken will eat the grain and the fox will eat the chicken. How does he get all 3 across the river without losing any of the 3 items?

Excellent riddles, guys. Here is another: Electrician is troubleshooting three circuits. Each circuit includes a switch in the basement that controls a light in the attic. Three switches in the basement. Three light bulbs in the attic. How does the electrician determine which switch controls which bulb, by making only one trip from the basement to the attic?

Easy one. He turns on one switch and leaves it on, a second switch is turned on for about 10 seconds. Upon turning off the second light, he heads upstairs. One bulb is lit. One bulb is warm and the third is cold, as it is connected to the switch which was not turned on.
Note: this doesn't work well with LEDs.
