LOL. A thread mostly about moving stuff to PARF gets PARF'd. Although, in fairness, I think its a legit question as to whether you can say anything you want in the sig line.

Kudos to Nick and Paul for taking on a thankless job.

Now Paul is gonna chastise me for telling it like it is .... and I don't GAF really. It's just a fuchin' cancer that's mestasized.

DD was actually doing a decent job but pulled a real bonehead move by challenging Thor (RIP) with something that he technically could not enforce on an open forum. Then DD went AWOL about six months ago .... and the overflow commenced .... some love it .... many just say adios.

And nobody really matters...

Except me

I didn't know this particular detail.

From my viewpoint, post 2020 election and post Jan 6th 2021 there has been a drifting away from reality for a large portion of PARF regulars. This drift made dealing with them impossible. Hence the final reason for exiting on my part and many leaning left of center.

This left a PARF devoid of any fruitful challenges, only the crazies ranting to crazies.

The attention and conflict they grew used to and craved was no longer there, so they decided to infect O.T. and drop their pants to dump in here. Even the dead aren't safe.

I understand the sig line concern. My problem is I don't know how to stop it or if it's a problem that needs to be stopped. We've had members with political avatars from both sides for about as long as I've been a member on Pelican. I've gone over the rules and don't see anything related to this issue. I'm not sure I view it as an issue since it only appears when they comment and it's really only seen if you read their sig line. I just don't bother to read sig lines. If their comment is political in nature in a thread in OT I know how to deal with that.

Okay... this thread isn't a whine fest about PARF. Let's stop that line of discussion going forward.

The fact that I like to play in the mud doesn't mean I like being dirty all the time.
My last post on this thread .... or mebbe not .

I won't disagree with ya Nick, but the PARFy spillover has affected us all imo. Remember your exchanges with (edited out a reference to another thread)...

Gotta Lab crawling all over me, so I'll cease

There's been a two decade history here for many here.... so all of us have had moments.... and that's fine.

Spell out the rules and have at it.... hoping you and Paul much success ... hoping DD is well, and returns also as a mod ... along with Z-man.

Politics just brings out the worse in many folks, and PARF is the place where any who want to engage can do so .... for tens of thousands of posts if they so desire, but it's not why most folks hang out here imo .

Best to everyone ... "warts and all" .... PPOT rocks!

Methinks y'all will do just fine...

I do think adding a few PPOT mods with no PARF history at all might be prudent. I could suggest a few ....

Any volunteers ?

I didn't think so ....

A thankless task .... so thank you & Paul for taking it on....

Good luck....

I knew someone would comment on that and thought about editing.

Mods can be enabled to disable a members sig. Ask the member to amend it and if they don’t then block their sig.

If it’s not an issue because it’s only seen when a member comments and someone reads then really nothing is an issue because all content could be treated the same way, no one should read anything. But the problem with that is you can’t know to ignore it until you’ve already read it.

While there may be no specific rule that addresses sigs it does thumb it’s nose at the spirit of culture we are trying to maintain. It’s a loophole that IMHO should be closed.

It’s a simple metric, does it add value?

I'm not sure I want to go that far though. Where does the line get drawn? Someone takes offense to your sig line. Do I delete it? I don't think the task of a moderator is to censor things just because others don't like it or don't agree with it.... but then again I am just a dumb ol' tractor seller I think it's to make sure things stay on track and where they cross over into the political realm, move those threads to where they belong.

Moving threads rewards people causing dysfunction and discourages people from being reasonable.

What might be a solid move is to assume I'm going to be impartial rather than not be.

If you look at the welcome thread in PARF by Z, I'm either too far right or slightly left leaning depending on who is commenting. That would seem to be a pretty good blend for a mod IMO.

Depends on the thread. There have been a number of threads posted in OT that are inherently political. Those are the ones I will focus on and I think that's Paul's focus as well.

I had this discussion with Z when he told me I was approved as a mod. I think he made a good point that letting it play out before taking action is a good course of action. Sometimes thing have a way of self correcting without any action being taken by the moderator. There's a picture or meme thread here in OT that Z mentioned. He brought up that some put a political picture or meme in, others just ignore it and it's over. I'm not sure being too heavy handed is the answer to being a good moderator.

But you “advised” me not to test the mods with sig line content so obviously it’s something within your scope to moderate.

As i said earlier, if it’s something you’d warn someone about if they posted it in their comment then it logically does not belong in their sig either.

It’s location in the post does not change its meaning.

I won't disagree with those ideas and the principle. However, putting toothpaste back in the tube is messy and there are several people with a long history of taking free reign as they please followed by a double, triple, quadruple...down sucking others in before the dog pile. That hasn't and won't stop by itself. Dysfunction persists when people benefit from it.

Just give us some time. We haven't even been "on the job" for a week yet. We're supposed to do some "training" this week to learn the ropes. It's like I told Z. I can't help clean if they don't give me a swiffer.

I’m not sure a swiffer is the right tool for the job. A scoop shovel seems more appropriate for clearing out the layer of shyte we’ve seen lately. 🤣

I think regular PARF participation should be a disqualification for a mod in any sub forum that is not purely technical in nature.

I would include myself as unqualified even though i bowed out of that cesspool 6 or so years ago.

Yeah ok, like when your wife says “Fine, do whatever you want” she’s not giving you permission.
