My suggestion for the new mods and rules...

Some are aware that we have two new sheriffs, most probably are not. I've just "picked up on it" and who they are. This place needs to be "cleaned up" imo... and I hope Paul and Nick do so. That said....

Tell us ;)

Lay out the "new rules" and how they will be enforced for everyone to plainly see.

One comment about a thread yesterday had me (and others too) wondering WTF? Another comment just made by the other is exactly what is needed at this point imo.

I reckon I've violated Z-man's rule #2 at least 20K times over the years :D.

Lay it out for us, then get to work .... yer paychecks are dependent on it ;)...

Good luck!

Arizona_928 11-07-2021 11:46 AM

Police our own. I think that we have a good set of members. And it's usually those that go off the rails are the ones that need to be given a little extra love. Ie. Tar and feather

cabmandone 11-07-2021 11:49 AM

In case I haven't made it clear in my comments here in OT, treat every person as if they're a moderator capable of banning you. Everything will fix itself at that point. I just want to clean up how we treat each other here in OT. As I told the person I warned, I'm guilty as hell in PARF but I think the gloves can come off there a little more than here.

I think Paul and I just want to see people take things down a notch or 10. Post less about political things, or things that will quickly turn political here.

OT has been a place I come to have some fun and shoot the breeze with folks. It hasn't gone unnoticed by many here that things have gotten so contentious here. The constant badgering by some, I'm guilty, has to stop.

FWIW, the rule are posted above. I was told by Z to review them. I've suggested some amendments to the rules. I'm sure we'll be letting everyone know what to expect going forward. But there will indeed be a difference here.

stevej37 11-07-2021 11:52 AM

^^^ well said.

KFC911 11-07-2021 12:05 PM

Yep! I wasn't aware that you and Paul have taken on a thankless task until yesterday. Maybe it's been obvious over in PARF, but I haven't visited in many months so I suspect many don't know either.

Have at it boyz .... this is your official "coming out" thread :D!

stevej37 11-07-2021 12:09 PM

^^^ Thankless? I heard the pay is amazing. :D

You probably wouldn't know I was a mod if you looked at a few threads in PARF lately. But like I said, I think the gloves can come off there a little more. This is where a lot of members come to joke around and have a good time. I want to see more of that going forward.

Bob,
I don't want this to turn into a callout thread. Please delete. Everyone knows who the "usual suspects" are here.

Bill Douglas 11-07-2021 12:31 PM

We need a constitution.

Contributions please.

And sensible ones too. Not rubbish like "No loaded guns allowed onsite."

Rusty Heap 11-07-2021 12:33 PM

Breathalyzer before posting?

cabmandone 11-07-2021 12:35 PM

Bill,
Like I said in my first post. If everyone just treats everyone else as though they're a moderator capable of banning them, I think things will clean up quickly. I don't think it needs to be anymore in depth than that.

But as far as the Constitution. I'm the grand ruler first and foremost. Paul doesn't even know this yet.. But by the time he figures it out, I'll have him taken out so he can't challenge my authority. :D

HA! That would probably cut my post count in half!

I was referring to the "knowledge" that you and Paul had badges might be in PARF....

We DO need some stinkin' badges :D...

And I agree.... no names are needed on this thread.... we know who they are ... from both sides.

Be nice or leave....

PARF awaits you :)

craigster59 11-07-2021 12:38 PM

I say, let "shyte and a$$" keep on going but ban "choich".

Yeah Z posted a welcome the new mods thread over there.

stevej37 11-07-2021 12:46 PM

No...don't ban cooch.

Superman 11-07-2021 12:49 PM

Nick, it is good policy own your faults and mistakes but in my memory you have not been much of an offender. Certainly not compared to some others. I think public policy discussions are healthy. Vital, I would say, in a great democracy like this one. And I think those views can be expressed vigorously, forcefully, and still be "in bounds." As long as they target an idea or policy or law or administration or politician. To me, the line is crossed when the target becomes a Board member. In my view, that line needs to be guarded.

I am concerned about the Moderators' workload. Transgressions should be rare events and they are not (though I have spent almost no time on PARF in the last several months). Perhaps some bannings will help the learning process and eventually reduce Moderators' workloads.

Don't worry about our workload. I think once people realize OT is being very actively moderated, things will calm down a bit. I don't mean that as a slight to Zman. He has done a great job!

Paul and I want to use the ban as a last resort. I think just letting people know that something is out of line will work in most cases. I've already been thanked by a few members for giving them warnings when things went sideways. Sometimes we just get carried away and need to have that reminder.

I gotta go out and put some gutter guard up so you guys keep it civil while I'm gone! :D

Thanks for stepping up to the plate. Optimism is a force multiplier.

For comparison-

If I were moderator, I'd demand all participants buy $100 monthly towards Pelican Parts products to provide the privilege of this site. If posters are dillweeds, instantly up that to $1000.

No questions asked.

On my first day of service, I'd post this:

http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1636323437.jpg

This is why you are a wiser head than mine! :D

fintstone 11-07-2021 01:46 PM

I would probably be more concerned about those that spend so much of their time trying to silence those they disagree with. I know this is a German car forum...but that is just un-American.

What makes it worse is that most are the same ones who make so many posts that are largely just personal attacks...or make clearly political posts and are shocked when someone responds with a similarly political (but better informed) answer.

Z-man has done a great job...not taking sides and not allowing crybabies to get other posters banned for the same behavior as those that complain about the do every day (just from a different political perspective). It is great he is getting some help, but the fact that so many are constantly lobbying for new mods to be the personal enforcer of their own political ideology (as in the past) is disturbing. If you want to post about political topics and feel your feces are less odiferous than that of others, bring it to PARF and see if you ideas/argument can stand up to scrutiny, otherwise you are the problem that you whine about so much.

Just to put my mouth where my mind is-(winter to do)
http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1636325622.jpg

fintstone 11-07-2021 02:07 PM

LOL. I have boxes of parts sitting here waiting to install...but it is too freaking cold in the garage in the winter. Maybe in the spring. Hope it is warmer there on Uranus.

pavulon 11-07-2021 02:25 PM

PARF is a sewer that overflows onto PPOT. Remove it and a lot of smelly problems either manage themselves by leaving or become so much more manageable.

fintstone 11-07-2021 02:45 PM

I never would have thought anyone would call for combining PARF with OT. I can't disagree...but it would sure get some pink panties in a wad in OT. Who would they complain about then?

cabmandone 11-07-2021 03:00 PM

Okay. Move along. Your points have been made.

stomachmonkey 11-07-2021 03:31 PM

What's the rules on stuff like this?

I get it's almost certainly fair game in PARF but as it's a sig it shows up in every forum where the member posts.

http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1636331454.png

cabmandone 11-07-2021 03:45 PM

We have members with all sorts of stuff in their sig line. I'll ignore it just like I do virtually every other sig short of the person's name if it's posted.

So you are saying we can break the rules by putting stuff in our sig?

Cool.

Superman 11-07-2021 03:48 PM

It seems to me that sig targets a politician. Fair game, I think.

Whatever floats your boat. I think it would be a solid plan to test the moderators. :)

That's where I'm at. And we're not saying people can't talk politics. We just want it to happen in the forum designed specifically for it.

That's the point, if it's in a sig, it breaks containment.

Trying to understand why that's allowed?

If it were in the body of a post outside of PPOT what's the call and how does it being in a sig make it any different?

My opinion, it doesn't.

Is that a threat?

You, one of the mods just said sigs are ignored so I said cool.

They either are or are not.

You want to help clean things up.

Great, I commend that but the message needs to be consistent.

No one is impartial but part of a mods responsibilities are to put aside their personal bias as best they can which often means making a call that goes against your personal position.

Your call on that specific sig does not feel impartial.

cabmandone 11-07-2021 04:15 PM

No threats here! Just saying I think it would be a solid plan to test the mods.
I'm all sorts of impartial. I had to give a friend a warning earlier due to a post here in this thread. Now, I'd suggest you drop it.

And to be crystal clear here, I don't care about anyone's opinion relating to what I do as a moderator or how you feel about my impartiality. If you don't like what I do, there's an X in the top right corner. Use it.

pavulon 11-07-2021 04:18 PM

Indirect threats are still threats just as indirect insults are still insults. If things are going to get better, the leaders need to set the examples.

cabmandone 11-07-2021 04:24 PM

No threats direct or indirect. I just think it's a solid plan to test the moderators. Now move along nothing to see here.

I'm looking for clarity here.

Rules say to keep politics in PARF and that sig breaks that rule.

We also have rules about profanity and bypassing the filters in place to sneak it in.

That sig breaks those rule everywhere on the Pelican Forums where that member posts outside of PPOT.

I'd like a proper explanation other than we ignore sigs because if that is the official position I'd like to know.

I question your ability to be impartial here when you posted this not two days ago.

http://forums.pelicanparts.com/11509520-post3.html

To be clear, the responsibility of being a mod does not give you carte blanche to disregard the rules you are meant to enforce because you agree with the content in question.

Yes?

No?

cabmandone 11-07-2021 04:34 PM

Tell ya what. You want clarity and impartiality, step up and become a mod. How's that for clarity? I'll step down the moment you step up. Deal?

cabmandone 11-07-2021 04:38 PM

Wow! Things sure got quiet really fast.
