Well the beige isn't ugly, perse
but it's a problem with sun reflection... Porsche actually got class action sued over that.

svandamme 02-09-2022 10:49 AM

When I was looking for mine, i was really hoping to find one in carmon red.
it's close to the maraschino red of my old 944S.
https://res.cloudinary.com/djo1nckex...2_1200x900.jpg

Unfortunately only one for sale in EU at the time, and it looked ratty.

second choise was blue. but again, the only one i found, i did drive it.. it was ratty
unloved by po.. beige interior, and lots of chips on the plastic (beige with black spots in it)

As much as I had loved a color, the arctic silver , tho very common, it works well with the lines of the car.

most colored ones also have the beige dash, which imho is no good for driving, for the reflection in the windshield
The Carmon red i think is probably one of the rarest colors out there. but the prettiest I think

most of the rainbow there includes two different greens!
It seems for every 50 silver cars for sale the is a small percentage of guards red, a lot of white and black, a few blue and some yellow.
The rest must have gone to somewhere else? LOL
I think greeeeeeen would be just great!
Dang secondhand buyers anyeways...

I'm game for interesting colors, but I would not write off any color if the right car came along. I'd probably be far less excited about pink. I might actually pass on a pink car unless it was really amazing or a deal so good that you couldn't pass up. Chocolate brown would also be low on the list, but I would own a chocolate brown car if it was a great car. I could go with green, black, blue, silver, gray, white, red, yellow, purple, etc.... Black looks great, but it's hot enough here that I try to avoid it (although my first Porsche was a black targa and my first miata was black). White is really boring, but if it was the right car... At least it wouldn't be hot like a black car!

I like tan leather interiors. I would not like beige though, I think. But I'm not sure which you're talking about.

This is what I'd call beige

Well the red cayman pic you quoted from my post
That dash
Looks beige like your beige

So not sure where the confusion lies?

Never seen tan interior dash on a cayman

Halm 02-09-2022 02:31 PM

My 2013 Cayenne has a Luxor Beige interior, including dash. Very easy to live with. My newer Cayenne is an all black interior and I miss the Beige.

Worse interior I had on a Porsche was a '99 996 with Savannah Beige. Off color that was really difficult to match, and the longer I had it, the more I grew to dislike it.

I looked at several Cayman's with the Sand Beige interior. Really liked it a lot but ended up with black.

rusnak 02-09-2022 02:34 PM

I would never want a light colored interior. Black would have been my first choice, but I ended up getting a slate grey interior. Now that I have it, I really like it. Best of all, it hides paw prints, dog hair, and dog snot from by two mutts.

Since it's a pic of the exterior and you specifically mentioned the "carmon" red (I think that should be carmine), I wasn't completely sure if you were also talking about that car's interior. Also, we can barely see it, and from what I see, with the harsh sun, it could be tan or beige. But then I don't know how your monitor is calibrated to know for sure what you see. And since beige and tan are fairly closely related, I think it's also possible that two different people could draw the line between the two colors in a very different place.

I don't know if I've seen a tan interior on a cayman either, but then I haven't seen them all when you consider how many are out there.

I'll get off your lawn now. :D

Wow, what a total twat. You should either contact the dealership or PCNA to let them know. I suspect that being a twat to customers would get someone's attention and result in a "re-education."

A normal person with focus on customer service would certainly have said something like, "the COA no longer exists, but there is a new version called CTC."

Just saying "no such thing as COA" and holding firm is very twatty.

It would be nice to know the name of the dealership and salesperson. We would all know to avoid them in the future.

afterburn 549 04-04-2022 01:49 AM

if you Cayman lovers have a flavorit place to look for one, do let me know.
Perhaps I am being picky..
I would like to find one with some good options including Limited slip.
No silver or gray.
No sand beige
No Tiptronic .

thanx

svandamme 04-04-2022 04:06 AM

limited slip may be a problem as it wasn't offered in the 987.1
I think 987.2 has it tho

also sand beige, was probably used on the majority of non silver cars
blue or red are very often the tan/beige interior.. Don't ask me why, but they often are..
probably to do with , once they pick the $$$$ non standard color, they'll also pick the $$$ non standard interior..

I'de recommend looking for the best mechanical car with a clean black interior, and good exterior condition, in whatever the color.
If it happens to be a silver one, and it checks all other boxes.. get it cause you'll probably never find one that has it all

rusnak 04-04-2022 04:41 AM

sounds like a 987.2 Cayman "S" or "R" will do the trick.

I found a 2007 Macan S with 32,000 miles on Cars.com for $34K.

afterburn 549 04-04-2022 05:44 AM

The "S" is in my Ballpark....the "R: not so much.
If you run into something in your travels do let me know, thankyou you.

Is there such a thing as a 2011 Design Edition?
I have seen one for sale, - black with the silver ghost stripes, but the VIN says nothing about being a DE
Where does one look for all the different variations and styles of Caymans ?
thanx

I know there was a 2008 design edition. I'd not heard of a 2011 design edition.

The Cayman Register also does not include anything for 2011. I would think that they would know.

Man, that is a lot of reading. I only read through 10-12 posts. I have an 987.2S with a PDK transmission. I tell ya, that damn transmission is Bluetoothed to my brain. Before you think it, it shifts in the gear you need, before you know it, jam on the gas, its always in the right gear. I am talking aggressive street driving with it set on sport.

My car has the following:

Cargraphic Ti headers and low cell cat but factory sports mufflers

19" wheels off a 911S (I think they are 19s? Have to look)

IPD plenum

Cobb tune

Ohlin shocks with 100lbs softer springs at its lowest setting normally for the street

Sports Chrono package (honestly, I can't tell the different on pedal response)

My favorite thing about all the mods is the tune. Its a mild tune, all together, I may have 30-35 hp gain along with the headers with some weight saving. The biggest difference I felt was the shift points. It felt like I have another 60 hp due to the changes. It must have about 340+ hp now? My next fav mod is the shocks. Love how smooth the car is on our LA streets. When I need to whip it around turns up in the canyons, it takes it just fine. I tighten up the shocks up a couple notches in the track.

Nice, exactly like mine only a year younger and different wheels. No Chrono package (not that important to me). Make sure the air /oil separator is in good shape. They are know to go bad but its an inexpensive part. Water pump is the other. within the next 20,000 miles, watch them.

afterburn 549 12-04-2022 04:52 PM

I don't know if I want it..but, how much is an air oil separator?
I will guess this is a pretty common part to replace?

Not that fond of black, but it is better than a lot of drab communist colors that are always offered.

Something like 100-125 bucks. Not too difficult to pull out and install.

This will keep you up a few more minutes.

Way I see it, factory ones will go to about 60k miles. Three of them will go to about 180-200 if pushed? If doing this yourself, its only 5-600 bucks. I don't think or trust the after market AO that last lifetime, for almost 900 bucks, my thinking is to change that at 120k miles. By 180k miles, everything will start to fail due to age or mileage. This aint no Toyota truck that will keep on kicking after 250 k miles.

masraum 12-05-2022 05:37 AM

Aren't there two from Porsche, the stock and then a race/track variant? Is that an improvement that can be installed on a street car? I think I've seen folks chatting about that.

Not sure? I am sure the engineers have or has a fixed for track days. I do a few track days yearly but nto enough to get a new track specific one. I haven't heard about the track version but will find out.

LOL, you'll probably buy two just to have a spare. THis is the one for a 987 w/3.4L
