I don't think fluid is ever sucked back into the radiator from the plastic reservoir.

It goes back into the engine through the other tube when things cool.

That's what I was wondering Bob. That cap on the rad doesn't have a means of allowing fluid back in, except that it doesn't seal down at the bottom flange, only the top one. The cap on the overflow tank won't allow fluid to flow back to the rad as the little relief valve is 'going the wrong way' so to speak.
I'd sure like to see a cross section of that overflow tank to see how they 'separate' the fluid from the vapors.

The caps are backwards. He should swap them around. Deep plunger on radiator, flat seal on overflow.

Seeing the tear on the seal on the radiator cap (the wrong one) I'd replace it, but it should be put it in the correct location, at the very least.

I don't know much about Xterras, but I sell radiators all day long.

Norally you would not get an argument out of me. For some reason Nissan designed this system backwards. No tears in nay of the caps and I have two brand new ones installed.

Can you get a heater core for a 1959 Edsel Corsair?

Glad you can enjoy the Xterra again. I've seen weird things, reversed impellers, bad T stats, broken T-stat, installed backwards T-stats, but I've never seen anything like yours.

It was not intended, for only your cooling system, to work that way.

Yes.

Got up this morning went to my guy for inspection passed no problem then I drove to Philadelphia 80 miles on dierction, did a few things and returned. No issues.

I'm pretty confident now guys we fixed it.
