I like the Colorado, but read some negative things about the seats in a recent article on the 2021. That said, the way the market is, you might want to set a baseline with a new 2021-2022 and see if you save enough with a 2017-2020. I'd go out and test drive everything.

That is what I hated about the Colorado. The interior was sub par at best and the seats were awful. It was tough to turn down that diesel but the interior killed it for me.

As Steve said....you may be able to buy new for equal or less than used. As long as you’re willing to wait a bit for availability. It’s a crazy market. I ended up buying new for that reason and was able to specify equipment.

My mother in law's husband has a '18 or so. I can't stand driving it very far, but that is the base model. I have not been in a recent Taco and i don't think the reliability is all that different in any of them these days.

Go drive the new Ford ranger. Makes more power then the taco or the Colorado and has more cab space IMHO. They are great little trucks.

Mine is not the latest generation and definitely used as a homeowners truck. I found a very heavily optioned Limited edition - kinda rare for a Taco. Mine is a '14 and has been bullet proof. Some don't prefer the chrome add-on's but I like it because it is very rare to find them, especially with long wheel base/6' bed. I added Bilstein shocks for a better ride. 18" wheels too.

Seems you can't go wrong with either.

I kept my previous Taco 14 years and 225K miles. It was rust in the frame that killed it. It was still running and handling perfectly.

Tacoma. what a track record!!

mine is a 2006 TRD 4x4. it is starting to look a bit rough, but 90% of the ugly is on the bed cover, shell thing. the paint is peeling. i might pony up the $$ to get it resprayed. i bet i can drop if off and keep driving the truck in the meantime.

i bought it used in 2008 with 32000 miles. i am just about 200,000. zero blips! i burned two lightbulbs..no three. and that is it. zero mechanic visits..only maintenance stuff. i did shred a serpentine belt once to ribbons and still made it homer like a moron. it is the only vehicle in my history where my wife has said, "you should start shopping for a new vehicle"..and i go.."nah, i'm good"

i can wait longer.

That's the one I would pick.

For the difference in price, get a full size truck, you won't regret it.

This is a no for me.. They are way too big for everyday use unless you need one for work. I bugs me waiting on owners to get them parked...

You remind me of a canadian youtuber I was watching a few years ago. I think this is a diesel from the timing sprocket locations (doesn't look like a V6)

If I was shorter (under 6') I probably would go with the Toyota with their better reputation but maybe GM has improved the Colorado line.

all this does is make me want to go find another early 70 International Harvester

edit: the Colorado in the vid has 2 counterbalance shafts so that tells me its a inline 4 cylinder. Did GM offer a gas 4 cylinder?

Even at 5'6" I sometimes bump my head getting in and out but once I'm in I'm perfectly comfortable.

Tacoma Vs Colorado?

That is just one city against an entire state. A state should win every-time!

I had a Silverado for 250k miles. Like a fool I sold it

Dad picked up a 1960 F100 and donated his 2005 Ford Ranger Edge to me. It's the 4.0 Mazda engine and it lacks torque.

I do miss a full size truck but this truck is in fantastic shape with only 114,000 miles

Good luck buying a new truck. You will find out why your old one sold so well ... Lots are practically empty. I have seen some dealership lots where I thought they had moved / were out of business, but no, there are people sitting in there selling the few used and handful of new ones they get in. It is bad.

So with that said, buying used, I'd look hard at the domestic trucks. The difference between the marques is shrinking, pulling all from the same suppliers, putting them together in similar or same locations etc. My only gripe on the Colorado would be that the head room you all talk about comes out of the floor. The driveline is super low in those trucks, leading to not much ground clearance. If you only will do a 2WD hauler type truck, it doesn't matter, but if you see any off road, I'd go make sure to look underneath before you commit.

I could not drive a taco truck. It is just too small, even at a slender 6'2". The way they make the truck look big outside and then have a micro-interior is beyond me.

Good luck!

If you are looking at they Chevy Colorado you might want to check out the GMC Canyon > same platform. I dig the Tacoma, what can i say ? especially like the 2018-19-ish builds, not sure about the later models. Colorado and Canyon look good though. Haven't seen much of the Ranger yet. In the end, will probably end up w/ a domestic truck from last century... with 100,000 miles on it, a 1999 something or other, It will be a 3rd vehicle, as budget allows As for size, all these "mid"-sized trucks are about as big as the 1970's full size trucks were..

One beef I have with the Colorado and Ranger is how tall the hood and cab are. I think the US and to a lesser extent import trucks think consumers want tall trucks so they have more presence on the road. To me they end up looking top heavy since they're so much narrower than a full size truck. The Tacoma hood and cab sits low enough that the proportions are right.
