Low pee flow

I’m only 57. What’s the deal? It’s taking me slightly over a minute to empty my bladder and I swear I’m bearing down as much as I can. I remember when my stream was strong. Now it’s like I’ve got a low flow restrictor. No other symptoms and my last PSA test was 1.7, well within range.

Guys in your 50s, are you experiencing the same thing?

jyl 12-01-2021 07:17 PM

Yup. And not only does it take longer, but I do it more often. Though that may have something to do with medication that has a diuretic effect.

Bill Douglas 12-01-2021 07:18 PM

The most beautiful rock pool... The water is perfectly clear... amazing clear water... Little fish scooting about... I'm so relaxed enjoying looking at the rock pools and the water everywhere.

Opps, excuse me, I need to go and take a pee.

It works for me every two hours throughout the night.

Instrument 41 12-01-2021 07:19 PM

Flow Max is in your future

cantdrv55 12-01-2021 07:27 PM

If Flow Max is a catheter, freaking kill me now.

Enlarged prostate. Very common in guys over 50.

No, not a catheter. It's a medication that relaxes the muscles in the prostate that control urine flow.

sc_rufctr 12-01-2021 07:37 PM

Same here but I've taught myself to relax completely and I now sit down to pee.
I make sure I completely empty my bladder just before bed time so I don't need to go during the night.

- I ride a bicycle a lot so I'm generally fit but "time waits for no man".
Note I've always used "Brooks" style leather saddles so I don't suffer penile numbness.

When I was about 14 I went to a Kiss concert and I was in the crowd crush near the front of the stage. I wasn't able to get to a toilet so I just held it for about 6 or 7 hours. When the concert was over we were walking back to the car and I just had to go... I found a tree and proceeded to "equestrian pee" for about 10 minutes straight!

herr_oberst 12-01-2021 08:01 PM

Old age. You gotta be tough. Time to harden up.
I'm old, I used to drink to excess and the plumbing is held together with rags and duct tape. A larger than average prostate that bears watching to make sure it doesn't decide to become cancerous.
Not so fun fact; a prostate exam is not done visually.

Some days I might pee 30 times, some days 4 or 5.
Fortunately I usually sleep thru the night, so I have that going for me.
(On a related note I'm on the 3 year plan for colonoscopy because they keep finding small benign polyps.
At least I hope they're benign this time around. I'll know in a week or two. Wish me luck.)

cantdrv55 12-01-2021 08:22 PM

Like JYL said, peeing more often but 30 times?! Holy moly. How do you get anything done?

As you all should know, the prostate holds/stores the ejaculate. When it builds to a certain point, if it's not released, that causes a more restricted urine flow, too.

So.... release the hounds!

Thanks. I didn't know that. It just shows the lack of information out there.

As SC and I said earlier. Relax, it helps a lot.

Superman 12-01-2021 09:40 PM

I walked into a bathroom with three urinals and a guy on the far right. Of course, I took the far left. A young fellow came in and used the middle one. Delivered a couple of pints and was gone in seconds. The guy on the right turned to me and said "Showoff...."

I've been know to use the toilet in the cubicles. If I'm standing at a urinal for three minutes it may be considered to be loitering

You're like The Rock during a workout.

Bill Douglas 12-02-2021 12:14 AM

LOL I googled that. I have never peed in a water bottle in my life, and hope not to.

WPOZZZ 12-02-2021 12:35 AM

How do you use the toilet in the cubicles?

Recent study says 20x per month is the magic number.

Recovering from TURP surgery now. cantdrv55, make an appointment with a urologist now. I have an enlarged prostate that I waited too long to diagnose. Had the same symptoms as you, but it got to the point where I felt like I was having to go every 15 min. Then I had additional abdominal pain. Trip to the ER determined I had acute renal failure. I’ve been with a catheter for over two weeks now. Can’t wait till Monday when it gets taken out to see if I am good after the TURP.

I’m 59. Urologist said enlarged prostate due to genetics.

Who else starting working out in their head their count per month?

When I turned 50 I started taking a natural testo boost / prostrate health supplement.

It may be a placebo for all I know, since I started taking it, I felt more energetic, better sex drive, and I seem to be able to stay lean much easier, as in weight gain was a problem in my late 40's and now I can manage it easy with little dieting.

Also, every male should be doing Kegel excercises. Most women already do, men rarely are instructed to.

https://www.mayoclinic.org/healthy-lifestyle/mens-health/in-depth/kegel-exercises-for-men/art-20045074

The only time I have flow problems is when I hold it too long, i.e. a road trip where I drank a Red Bull 15 minutes into the next stint leaving a gas station and I have to fight to hold it in for a couple of hours until we stop again.

If you’re asking if we worry about a prostate: no because we don’t have one.

If you’re asking if women think of sex: I would say look at the best selling books every year. They are always trashy novels. 50 Shades of Grey didn’t become a best seller and top box office because of men.

upsscott 12-02-2021 03:22 AM

20 times a month, that’s laughable. Who’s got time for that?

NY65912 12-02-2021 03:25 AM

I pee in Morse Code.

stevej37 12-02-2021 03:25 AM

I'm 68 and my bladder habits are the same as when I was a teen. I do know that when I have to go...I have to go soon. It's always been that way, so I don't worry about it.

Yep, same here, much more often, and with a sciatic nerve issue, and my leg being numb, but hurts like a mother every time I get up.

Didn’t read all of this, so apologies if duplicate. Was on FloMax for a while and it works...but, it caused a severely stuffy nose (hard to sleep when you can’t breathe) and it messes with your mojo. Not good. No further explanation required.

Doc put me on low dose Tadalafil (Cialis). Life saver. Because it’s low dose you won’t be walking around with a boner all day (but may occasionally wake up with one). Took about two weeks to start working but completely back to normal. Get your annual psa test and if normal, ask your doc about it. Worked like a charm for me.

recycled sixtie 12-02-2021 04:19 AM

From what I have experienced back in about 2016 was the worst in terms of pee flow.
In Ireland for my daughter's wedding. The day before returning home I could not pee at all. In severe pain and the ambulance took me to the Dublin hospital. Put a catheter in me and came back to Canada and had a turp operation. Been a lot better ever since but not perfect. I am blessed. They never charged me a cent.

I was going to talk about this as well. Low dose Tagalafil works. And Kegel exercises. I think it allow the bladder to contract more quickly.

Oh, and the 20 times a month works as well. But, those are amateur numbers...I suggest you get help with that...

greglepore 12-02-2021 04:23 AM

It can be things other than an enlarged prostate, but get checked.

Thanks but I knew only men have prostrates. (I used to be a nurse a long time ago)

What I meant is... Is it beneficial for women to be sexual active?

(No disrespect intended but I've never been able to get a serious answer to that question.)

flatbutt 12-02-2021 05:02 AM

One of the many lasting effects of my spinal injury is a neurogenic bladder. I use an intermittent catheter 4 times a day. So if you need to just take a pill do the happy pee pee dance.

GH85Carrera 12-02-2021 05:29 AM

20 times per month! Maybe when I was 18, but over 60 that would be a um, a hard target.

One a recent group road trip we all at lunch together, and then when as a group to the next stop, a rest stop at a pretty state park. It was only 60 minutes after lunch, so I was not really needing to go, but I am old enough to follow the sage advice, never pass up an opportunity to go to the bathroom.

The bathroom had just one urinal, and two toilets, so I had to use the toilet. There were other men following me so I knew I needed to get on with it so others could go. I could clearly hear the guy at the other toilet whizzing away, and I was like the song, under pressure. Fortunately, I had a good stream and finished up and was not standing there hogging a toilet doing nothing.

I'm only 47 so no exam yet. I'm sure it's cool - I guess it's digital now so there's probably a computer involved.

;)

Yep, it's digital. There will definitely be digits involved, someone else's, hopefully, long slender digits instead of sausage fingers.

monoflo 12-02-2021 06:18 AM

Many doctors nix the digital test these days and go by the PSI test

Well I can tell you that if I don't use a catheter on time my PSI test is waaaaay high!

Maybe you meant PSA?

Not disrespectful to ask. Sex does increase release of endorphins, improving mood. Other hormones like oxytocin, the love hormone which can improve mood and induce labor in pregnant women. Also can decrease abdominal pain during menstration

sc_rufctr 12-02-2021 07:07 AM

Thanks Ms PorscheGAL.
