Knee pads - do you wear them?

My knees can’t take hard surfaces or dirt anymore so I strap on knee pads when I do any work. When it’s not too hot out, I wear overalls with pad inserts. My knees thank me.

No, but I don't do so much anymore. If I were out doing a bunch of work, them I would definitely wear them. My knees are messed up from crashing on my bicycles, banging myself up white water rafting and working without knee pads when I was ten feet tall made of steel in my early 20s. I laugh at the old farts who wore knee pads and shown them what I am made of. I go and knee on concrete with a pair of shorts for a few hours doing work like install a hardwood floor or cabinet install. What a dumb fook I was. My body is good, no pains, back is great but I jsut wish I hadn't done those dumb things in my youth.

God invented soft butts so he wouldn't have to invent soft knees.

SIT DOWN. Getting up again, while crappy, is still better than kneeling.

When I put flooring in four rooms, knee pads were indispensable. The Lord provided me with a bony butt.

I need to get a set. I usually use a knee pad where I'm kneeling. Some of the inverters come with a bunch of pieces of excellent closed cell plastic foam for packing material. One part is about 16" x 30" x 1.5".

Not only "Yes ", but " H e double hockeysticks yes ". About ten years ago I had my right knee swell up after fixing about eight square feet of hardwood flooring in my FIL 's house . Since then if is more than one kneel , I grab one of my three sets of knee pads .
I also keep a bunch of foam pads within reach in the garage .

I just put a new shingle roof on my shed. Took me three days because my knees got really sore. Yes, I was wearing leather knee pads with a foam pad insert. It should have been a one day job.

I wear them when I’m shuffling into the back of my truck. I have a camper shell. I need them to load my truck for camping.

I even have a camouflage pair to wear when I’m crawling towards a deer. Helps when I’m praying in my knees. “ dear God, please let that deer still be there after I crawl this last mile”

I wear knee pads or use a foam pad any time I do anything on my knees. I have something I understand is called "Osgood Schlater's (sp.?) Disease," that caused an enlargement of the top of the shin just below the knee cap. So it's uncomfortable to try to rest on my knees. I was told it was caused by overactivity as a kid while the bones were growing.

A few months ago I was on my knees for a couple of hours cleaning stereo connections.

I thought I was safe with carpet on carpet pad on concrete slab.

I was not.

Knee pads now for any duration, any surface.

I'm just too old not to be wise.

LOL...your deer hunting technique is....

well "different" than most

Knee pads are a must for hardwood floor/tile installations...that's about all I use 'em for.

If "she" wants kneepads... well... I digress

Never. They bother me intensely. I could if they were sewn into long pants but I don't wear long pants. Otherwise the straps of any design I've tried bunches up at the back of the knee and is worse than going bare knee. And if you start sweating, jeez, that makes the whole thing awful. I'll find another way before donning knee pads.

I've used them in the past when I was doing tile or other things on the floor (wood flooring, baseboard, whatever)

I've noticed the same thing that Zeke noticed, sometimes the straps are horrible. I've had some that were better than others.

I think I've always used just about the cheapest ones available, and if I end up needing them again, I'll be getting better ones.

I have them and use them but hardly ever wear them.
Typically I just throw them down where I am working and kneel on them.
The newer pair are actually pretty comfy.

I'm always wearing shorts too, and the straps suck . I've got a pair of the "good ones" .... err... the less-sucky ones, with the hard shell....

The lessor of the evils.... so I protect my knees while doing floor projects only.

When I have to kneel, I put a version of the one from post 8 down to kneel onto. I have two of those pads. Love em. I don't do floor work or any job that requires much kneeling, just tinkering on my cars.
