What personality traits do you hate?

I probably should have put this in PARF, because I should know better, the way this place is... but...
The LEO talking down thread got me thinking.

What personality traits or actions completely turn you off?

For me, I guess the two kinda go hand in hand .
1. Arrogance.
2. The one I have ZERO tolerance for is condescension. I don't care who you are, what you socio-economic standing, your position, etc... Don't you ever try to talk down to or attempt to degrade me or anyone I know, because you have more money, or are in some position of power or fame. You are no better than me or anyone else.

One of the things I love about Mrs vinman is, when someone acts like that towards her, she goes off on them. She'll be the first one to tell them to GFYS. She takes no shyte from no one. That's the Brooklyn girl I her. I'm a little more diplomatic about it!

Arrogance and condescension, those are traits that are reasonable to dislike for sure.

This is an interesting question. I can't think of anything specific, but I'm sure there are traits that I don't like. It probably depends upon the person and a number of factors. I'm unlikely to go off on anyone, my tactic would be to mentally write them off and just not deal with them any more than I absolutely have to.

Add in self-ishness.

Also Narcissists.

This. And add in liars.

URY914 12-15-2021 09:31 AM

I hate short people. Is that a trait?

Lack of self awareness..

One uppers in a conversation. Tell your story, if someone has a better story it's ok.

Solid answers. Think I'll piggy back on your response, as well as Vinny's.

Not everyone can be as selfless as me.
Or as modest.

vash 12-15-2021 09:58 AM

jealousy.

not the garden variety envy stuff. i'm talking about stalker level stuff. ex. the husband that checks the hood of car for residual engine heat, level insanity.

i dated a few women like that. briefly. once that reared it's head, i was out!!

Conversation one uppers. You know the kind, you are at a party, dinner, in the office, someone tells an interesting and cool story. Said one upper hardly waits for the storyteller to inhale before they start off on the 'yeah, I had a similar situation.........' and amazingly has a cooler line for literally every element of the original story.

It really grinds my gears.

People that speak about something with confidence as if they have great knowledge when I know they're completely wrong. I'm always very careful to qualify my statements if I'm not positive of the answer, and it drives me crazy when others don't.

It pays off, too, because people that get to know me in work eventually realize they shouldn't argue with me when I say something with surety because it means I've already confirmed it as true. It removes a lot of needless bickering. Anyway, so when I get into it with someone who's pushing back on something I know for a fact I really don't have patience for them.

I might be a bit of a dick in this respect (my wife thinks so at least).

I hate arrogant people because they always think they're better than me, when we all know that's not possible.

Hey, I resemble that remark!

LWJ 12-15-2021 11:35 AM

And people who exhibit the dunning–kruger effect.

Hate that too.

hbueno 12-15-2021 11:36 AM

Know-it-all syndrome
Lack of humility
mendaciousness
narcissism
willful ignorance

That person is (not) affectionately called "CYTT" as in: Can You Top This?:(
