Using gun broker process
Never used gun broker or any online seller
I see on their site I need to email or fax a signed copy of the FFL I will use to receive the item I was going to use Sportsman’s warehouse I guess So, do I go in there and ask them for this first? Would I expect them to give this to me or would they handle emailing it? How does that work if I haven’t purchased the item yet? Do I buy first? Presumably I should confirm with the store that they will even receive firearms for me? Not sure why I can’t wrap my head around this process but I’m confused Can someone share their experience doing this please?

My experience is that as a rule, the local LGS will help you a lot more than the big box store.

Yea I think your right. I just noticed on GB that they maintain a list of “transfer agents” you can search for by zip code. I see one just down the street from me. I’ll stop in and discuss I guess

I used a local place that the company I was buying from GB had used in the past. It was really smooth and I was pleased with how it went.

Buying online has many obstacles. I just learned I can not even have a magazine shipped to my house in this city. Ruger won’t even sell me one if I ship it to someone else in a different city if the billing address is in this city. Holy crap. I looked on eBay at magazines and don’t see sellers with any shipping restrictions. I wonder if eBay would end the transaction once I enter my address. Interesting

Just have a friend in another state order what you need and then pay the additional shipping for them to get it to you. I buy "hi-cap" mags all the time online and I've done it for Pelicans who live behind enemy lines.

This^ or see if a local place sells them. We have a “ban” and my local store has a ton of them.

Depends on the shop. Some will give you a copy of their ffl and others want to email it directly to the seller.
Buying from large retailers is nice bc they'll have a bunch of ffls on file.

I have used GunBroker quite a bit. I have never had an issue with getting what I have purchased. It is a " best practice" to contact the FFL first so they are aware that you have a delivery coming. They will charge you about 50 bucks for the service ( they have paperwork to do concerning the item) . Knowing you FFL service cost upfront is good, because it can help you shop around for the price you want to pay for the service. I have used both gun stores and FFL holders that work from there homes. I see no difference. First when the weapon arrives, you have to go there and get a reciept which you take to county offices and they will add it to your permit (for a pistol in NY). Then you go back and can take possession of the firearm. It takes about an hour total. Good luck !
P.s. I have magazines and ammunition shipped to my front door regularly. The only restriction in NY is you cannot buy a mag larger than 10 rounds. So, if you firearm purchase is larger than 10 rounds you , i.e. double stack, you need to reconsider your choice.

I have New York Police Supply Inc near my house.. I think they charge $50 for this service. Seems high but I’m ok with it. I’ll go speak to them tomorrow before I buy
Monroe county I thought was one of a handful of counties that prohibit shipping magazines and ammo. Maybe I was reading something obsolete or maybe some sellers don’t care? Not sure. I’ll give it a try. I know your close to me but maybe next county over? Quote:

before bidding always line up your transfer dealer.
Some won't take transfers from private individuals, or if they will require a xerox of the persons DL. Additionally, they probably won't provide their full FFL to a non-licensee, but should at least provide enough of the info to run hte ATFE's EZCheck against the FFL for the sender to know they are shipping to a legit dealer. Finally, be aware of shipping fees and transfer costs. Can quickly bring the price of a gun up above what you could pick one up for from a local dealer. |

unfortunately in NY, if there is a weapon that is at all in demand for whatever reason, you will not find it anywhere in stores. ive looked all over the state and would be willing to drive 300 miles to a store to pick it up. Nothing. it is what it is i guess

When I buy from Buds I use their list of nearby FFL's.
Used to use Bass Pro but a closer one opened up. Never bothered having to reach out to FFL before hand. I get a delivery notification and go get it.

I bought one online.
I had it shipped to a local gun shop I think they charged me about 25-35 for doing it.

I found quite a few that will ship to anyplace in NY except NYC. There are no upstate zip codes listed. All are NYC boroughs and counties with 10xxx zip codes.
Not sure about Hickok45, as I have never watched him. Buds, and Target Sports and quite a few others seem ok with upstate online sales and delivery. I searched for laws restricting ammunition purchases in Rochester, NY and came up empty handed.
