As promised I grabbed some pics of Dad's 1972 TR6 last night. Stock restoration w/ some minor modifications for driveability. Color is Pimento Red which is original to the car. Wheel centers are painted black but in 72 they were silver, he just liked the look better. British flag on the rear quarter did not start until 1973, prior to that it just had a "TR6" sticker there like you see. Cylinder heads have been modified for unleaded fuel.

Beautiful. My 71 was Carmine Red with a black interior. Your dads car brings back memories. One of the prettiest of the British cars from that era.

Very clean! impressively so in fact. Mine is more of a driver, that I just don't get the opportunity to drive very much.

Piece of cake. You do need a vacuum gauge to balance them unless you are good with a piece of hose and a sensitive ear but other than that they are easy. Too many Americans aspire frightened of soles and SU carbs.

Here are some more pics of Dad's restoration. The original frame was repaired and restored, it was not replaced.

Your dad is too cool!

What’s going on back here with the box fan and what looks like a wood lathe?

In addition to two TR6’s, I had a GT6+. I saw this one, when I was looking for an M54 engine to buy. Cannot believe how small it was. The body and frame were rusted terribly.

Yes it was rather ingenious. I think it got more attention than the car did with the guys from the local British Motoring Club. When he finished the work he disassembled it and sold it to another British car club guy to use on his own restoration.

LOL. He bought a 1950's ShopSmith and recommissioned it back into usable condition. That's his homemade dust hood and the fan pulls the dust from the lathe out the window. He's into turning wooden bowls with it recently.

The GT6 is one of my favorites. Growing up our neighbor's son had one in gold. Always loved the look of that car.

After looking at these pictures and videos of the TR6, it’s making me long for something other than my “modern” E46.

I had looked at 240Z‘s a while back and they’ve gotten ridiculous. Seems like all the cool cars from the 60s and 70s have become unobtainable for the average Joe.

Not hard. The Web has made it easy to study up before you start, so that you know what you are trying to do.

Lots of YouTube detailed explanations and examples of how to do it. Plenty of forums (like ours) with helpful tips.
You can also buy inexpensive tools to check, adjust and balance out the carbs.

In the old days, there were just a few gurus who charged a lot for this service, now the mystery has been removed and its all quite straightforward.

Yep, I didn't have a clue as to how to keep the carbs synched, but I always checked the little dash pots to make sure they had oil in them. I took my car to a place in Ft Walton Beach called "Foreign Aide". They had someone there who worked on British cars, and a separate mechanic that worked on French cars and a mechanic that worked on German cars. There was a girl mechanic there, I think she worked on the French stuff or Italian, I can't remember, she was kind of hot now that I think about it. Damn was I stupid!!! She would probably have been fun to hang out with.

You can also fuel inject it.
There’s a guy doing a manifold - mirshab - and ratco is cobbling a kit together.
I’d go that way.

Caveat - I fuel injected my red 6 so I have a little familiarity with the process though.
The 250 has an engine swap, so it’s silly fast.

The Brit versions were fuel injected. I suppose you could buy the original system from the UK and install it over here, but maybe it was Lucas and crap. Not sure.

Dad's runs great properly tuned on the car. Biggest thing he did was had the distributor custom tuned (sent out to a service). After messing with the carbs for 2 years that made the major difference in getting it running really well in all temps and conditions that tuning the carbs never could.

Remember the old car saying "Most carburetor problems are electrical".

Here's an article on installing Throttle body fuel injection, a 5-speed Toyota transmission, and a Nissan LSD in a TR6: https://www.hemmings.com/stories/article/improving-the-tr6-1975-triumph-tr6
