And this is for Glen, who is always complaining about lack of consistent penalties for exceeding track limits.

Turn 15 is a great place, because of the late braking and passing moves taking place at Turn 12, plus the infield action of Turns 13-16.
I was surprised at how good Turn 9 seats are. You can see Turns 6-17. Plus they are inline for the concerts taking place at night, so you can see/hear the concerts without needing to be down in the grass with the masses. And there are good selections for concessions at Turn 7 and 9. -rb |
Turn 8 of the USS Grand Prix looks like a killer.

Have you seen Vettel’s hair. He looks like he joined a rock band from the 80s.
Interesting changes to the track itself. |
Vettel can't catch a break
Fined $5500 for taking a lap around the track on his moped. Fans loved it I'll bet. He looked like he really enjoyed it too.

$5,500 eruo is about equal to 20 bucks for most of us at his income level. I heard they are going after "unauthorized jewellery" for the drivers. So Lewis will have to lose the visible piercings, and watches and rings are not allowed on the drivers.
I can understand the safety aspect, in a fire the fire suit is doing it's job, but a piece of metal will get hotter than skin, and stay HOT a lot longer. Some of the drivers said they have piercings in places not visible under normal conditions. I really don't want to know where, and I hope they are safe. |

I'm thinking that after cashing the check from UBER Eats.................Vettel will make a substantial profit on that lap. :D

Did he actually deliver something? That would be more hilarious.

I'm sorry to say I think Lawrence is going to tell his kid,"I can't afford you. "
I don't know where his head is at, but it didn't seem to be in the car. Best Les |
What a disaster of a weekend so far for Aston Martin , they have flushed a lot of $$$ down the crapper . Not good for Latifi/Williams either . Albon got some penalty for a fuel infraction and I think he takes grid penalty .
A shame about Alonso , a simple miss shift throws away a great qualy run . Nice to see McLaren in the top ten . Haas and Alfa off the pace along with Alpha Tauri . Mercedes creeping up. It might be a good race 😁 |
Carlos tried too hard to make up for an unlucky qualifying.
Max had a chance on the second restart, but as Charles said, they were able to control the race. George:3rd! Great race! Best Les |
I really, really like how LeClerc and Ferrari are performing. They are just getting the job done.
The COTA MotoGP race was a great one. |
2022 F1 Thread
And Mercedes is likely to win the constructors championship by finish with two cars every race. Red Bull is fast, but fragile.
|
Vettel has to be questioning himself about the decision to join AM . What a nightmare weekend and horrible start of the season for the team . Stroll Jr. working hard on a race ban and dad has the team spinning in circles and burning $$$ .

Enjoyed the race, tough luck for Carlos and Max.
Got some questions that maybe the brain trust can answer, there was one camera view that showed Leclec leading Max (he was close, can't remember when in the race it was), thae cars were coming straight at the camera and you could see the Ferrari porposing but Max was not, was that because the RB was following closely or what. The talking heads pointed it out but never expanded on the reason for the RB running smooth. I had thought that Ferrari was kind of the leader of the teams as they try to control the bouncing. Found it strange that the porposing goes away in the corners, camera view showed it, talking heads commented on it but no reason as to why, the camera view looked to be into a fast corner but don't know if its cornering or braking that eliminates it. Seems everyone is having a hard/long time getting the hard compound tires up to temp. I heard that there is a lower tire blanket temp limit as part of the new rules, anyone know what that temp is and what the difference is from last year? |
Good race, and results!

Ferrari had one of the worst episodes of porpoising this weekend. It looks like other teams have reduced the effect.
Regarding the cause of porpoising, after observing it in three different races, on three different tracks, I think it is caused by a combination of aero PLUS a certain amount of pavement rippling. If it was just caused by the low underfloor pressure sucking the chassis down until the airflow stalls, then it should be speed dependent and happen on every fast straight. But it seems to really happen when there is a combination of high speed plus some pavement issues. For Australia, the approach to Turn 9 seemed to be the worst place for porpoising, even though there were faster sections of track. LeClerc/Ferrari were dominant on Sunday. He just pulled away from the pack, even Max. I think the Ferrari power unit is superior right now, as shown by the performance of the three teams using it. The difference in track position is probably more related to aero/chassis issues, as well as driver. That said, I think that Mercedes made some power unit improvements this weekend, reflected by the performance of the Mercedes and McLaren teams, as well as Williams/Albon. Aston Martin has chassis, aero and reliability issues slowing them down, and Williams has Latifi. -rb |
