But it was ear garbage to listen to her during FP2 for 90 minutes. ;) |
^^^
Her quote, “no one will be using the hard tire today” |
Danica's shocked look when one of the other talking heads said the cars would be hitting 220 mph on the long straight was priceless . As an ex racer and now commentator how can you not know that ? What a dim bulb .
|
There is little doubt she is on screen only because she is a pretty lady. She has some racing credentials, but knows very little about F1. She is certainly lots more understandable than Paul di Resta but she needs to become a fan of F1 and watch all the races for a while and learn about the F1 world.

I'm ok with DiResta and understand him w/o issues. But I've lived in the UK before so it may be different for me. What killed me was during FP2 at Austin, Paul was totally explaining what was going on and it went right over her head as evidenced by her question of whether the teams knew what compound they were testing. He had literally just covered that point. |
Funny to hear Verstappen and the entire RBR team were not talking to Sky TV in Mexico, boycotting interviews etc...
Apparently Ted Kravitz (pitlane guy for Sky) wrote something recently about Max stealing the WC last year from Lewis... Verstappen and RB had enough and are boycotting them, which impacts all Sky countries (UK, italy, etc) Created more whining from the british press... Kinda funny as I 'm neither a fan of RBR, nor of Sky, and starting to tire of the british press/commentary... Like watching people I do not like punch one another. I have to say, I've been following F1 for 35+yrs and coverage/press is a British majority.. Over the years I've read a lot of british and other european F1 mags, watched Euro/brit/US coverage, and I gotta agree with Max.. I find the british press singularly biased and not shy to talk **** about any non british drivers while Saint Lewis never does any wrong. I think it's probably why uncounsciously I am not a Hamilton fan. By and large the brit press gave a lot of $hit the non-brit competition, be it Patrese/prost during the Mansell era, or anyone since Lewis came along... Schumacher was the evil german, Alonso the machiavellian Spaniard, Vettel wasn't much loved until he stopped winning at redbull, Rosberg was often ridiculed and "not worthy" even after he beat Lewis.. Alonso recently said something about Verstappen titles being impressive because he beat other teams in good cars (slight dig at Hamilton's titles in a mercedes where he only had to beat a teammate - bottas or Rosberg). It's not untrue.. That created another furor... Kinda fun... |
Yea, the British coverage is understandably very slanted toward all the British drivers, but extra so on Hamilton. My biggest pet peeve of all TV coverage of a race is showing the wife or team owner of a driver during the race. I don't care one bit about the wife or family of a driver looked at the race, show me the dang race! It happens in all TV race coverage.
Sky loves to talk about Hamilton and he is without a doubt a great driver. He has had the best car by a large margin for 10 years. He finally has some real competition for the other teams cars. Now is is just an also ran. Lots of podiums, and he gets everything out of his car, yet he can't compete with Verstappen. Ferrari just can't get the strategy right. |

I saw an interview with Hamilton last week regarding his potential retirement. The thing that stuck out was him saying, "we have more work to do. We need to get more women in the sport".
Hmmm |
One thing for sure, no team will hire a female driver unless they are as fast as the men. No hiring them just because of demographics. To even get a shot they will have to be really good.
With that said the only sport that I know of on the planet that a woman is as good, or the very best of the best, is drag racing. 338.17 mph by Brittany Force in just 1,000 feet! 3.659 seconds! The current world record. Under 4 seconds for the 1/4 mile was really fast, and they are doing it in 1,000 feet now. Brittany is as good as any man on the drag racing track. So if we can find the Britany of go-carts and train her to be a F-1 driver there is a possibility. Now all that is need is lots of sponsorship money for her. Brittany was lucky enough to have a daddy like John Force. She was born into drag racing. |
How about Jamie Chadwick ? She cleans the floor each year in the woman series. Why is she not in F2 ? If she's as good as she seems, what a great Advert for a team ? I don't get it... If I won the lotto I'd sponsor her, she seems like a decent/funny person too..

Nice mainstream piece about Toto and Mercedes and their travails this season in the New Yorker. No link as "paywall".

Alpine are probably leading the way..... https://www.topgear.com/car-news/formula-one/heres-how-alpine-plans-find-next-female-f1-driver Had a tour of the Alpine factory a few weeks ago, the very same factory I worked at over 20yrs ago The single most noticeable difference other than most of people looked like they should be in school :( was there were women in nearly every area of the factory Machinists, laminators, mechanics, engineers, designers, planners, buyers, shop floor, office, upstairs, downstairs and everywhere etc, etc Was really impressive to see it wasn't just corporate speak |
Hamilton: "I've driven over 200 MPH".
B. Force: "Actuually..." |
