Slant nose 930

The thread on the white Targa and picking on Playa got me thinking. Is the Slant nose really that bad? I don't think I would buy one or get anywhere near it, but back in the 80's during High school, I would given my left nut for one. Still, I don't think they look that bad done correctly without all the bling bling.http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1641242815.jpg

911boost 01-03-2022 11:54 AM

I have never been a fan of them, when I had my 964T I could never decide if I like the version of it either. Of course they are $$$$ so I was not ever considering buying one.

Is that Don Johnson peeping out the window.

I like em. I actually love the flachblau 964 cars. Just enough German guirky coolness from that era.
I almost bought a dark green slant , right before I grabbed my 930. I thought I really wanted it but decided that real Porsches have boobs , and sought out a normal bodied turbo instead .
I like them plain, with boxed rockers, slant front, fuchs wheels, and nothing more .
I wonder how they will fare as far as collecibility in the future . In my youth, they would have been un obtainable to a guy like me .
That black one in the first post is drop dead sexy . Would bang
Of course there were some really tacky ones made in the 80's .
Ice Ice baby .

Shoot yea I'd have one (if I had 'Jay Leno money').
Is it out dated? Sure. So is a Mercedes 300 SL Gullwing, a 904, and a `63 Split Window Corvette. That doesn't mean they are undesirable. One of the things I love about my `87 Carrera is that it is a classic style and not some fat molten body style

stomachmonkey 01-03-2022 12:30 PM

I love them.

Unfortunately too many people riced them up too much and they just became garish.

Stock wide body wit the flatnose is all you need.

I really like some of them, and others look horrible. I do like the fact that there's a reason/purpose for the changes, form follows function and all that.

This is by far my favorite, not exactly a slant nose, but it is.

Other than ridiculous creations by Gemballa and the like, my least favorite Porsche-made slant would probably be a slant nosed cab.

Chocaholic 01-03-2022 12:42 PM

No love for the slant nose. Wreaks of 80’s gold chain poser culture.

herr_oberst 01-03-2022 01:08 PM

I'd love to have that Manx in the BG

Shaun @ Tru6 01-03-2022 01:11 PM

I sold one for a shop's customer 20 years ago. They have a certain charm about them but the normal front fenders & headlights are one of the defining characteristics of a 911. Slant noses just aren't the same. But they are interesting.

David 01-03-2022 01:22 PM

I was a huge fan in the 80's, not so much now.

stevej37 01-03-2022 01:26 PM

It's the most asked question I get when people see my SC or Carrera. "What do you think of the slant-nose Porsches?" Weird.

Weird, back when I had my car, I don't think anyone ever asked. I don't think anyone has ever asked or mentioned them to me other than other Porsche guys.

For me, one of my all time favorite Porsches would be one just like Chris Streit's, a silver 930.

stevej37 01-03-2022 03:13 PM

^^^ I don't understand it either. Must be something about my location.
Another often asked Q is "What is a Tanga?" (from those are totally unfamiliar, and read the script wrong)

vonsmog 01-03-2022 03:16 PM

I built one on a 69' T chassis back in 84'. Man it was a blast to drive! Guards Red, 3.2l motor, Webers and BBS rims. Sold it when building our second house, as we had 7 Porsche's, and the wife wanted more in the house than in the garage. I think the 69' stock would be worth more today than what I did to it. I got the car back from the second owner after I sold it. after he hit a telephone pole. Sold all the parts and made quite a bit on it all. But is sure was an eye catcher back in its day!

Por_sha911 01-03-2022 06:10 PM

I am always asked "is it a turbo?"

A930Rocket 01-03-2022 07:00 PM

I’ve always liked them, but not the over the top style, like Gembella, or “Playa’s” type car, etc.

Question, did they make a slant nose with no rear fender slats? Seems like all of them have them.

I think that's a nice one. Not over the top at all.

sc_rufctr 01-03-2022 08:22 PM

They've aged well. A few years ago they looked hideous but not now.

Hey man, watch it there buddy with the 930 cab.:D

Taken long ago at my parent's house a few years after I got the car. Still have it. Yep, I agree, cab just don't look right with Slant nose.

BTW the standard 930 is still a site to behold IRL. One of the most "macho" cars ever made!

Aussie Orange, if you ever make it to the Dallas/Fort Worth area of TexASS, you are more than welcome to take mine for a whirl and get your macho on (no homo!). :)

sc_rufctr 01-03-2022 10:15 PM

lol... Thanks Raunch. :)

I might just take you up on that when this pandemic BS is over.

Let me know if you come to Denver in the warmer months and you can take the RS for a spin.

rusnak 01-03-2022 11:13 PM

A friend of mine who collects mostly exotic cars had an '89 Turbo slant nose. I think he said it was orginally ordered by the guy who played Apollo Creed in the Rocky movies. I was sort of surprised at the build quality on some of the areas such as the rear fender slats. I guess Porsche got away with that sort of thing back then. It was like a prototype.

sc_rufctr 01-03-2022 11:48 PM

From memory the rear fender slats on the special swishes cars were made of wood.

The black one in the first post is gorgeous.

ZOO 01-04-2022 03:13 AM

There was a time in the 1980s when I lusted after a DP935 . . . then I saw the Ruf CTR! I wouldn't want any slant nose now.

This is my friends 964 Turbo slantnose. This is #5 out of 10 that Porsche built in all aluminum. Pretty cool.

GH85Carrera 01-04-2022 05:18 AM

We have one local PCA member that has one of the prototype Genuine Porsche built 930 Slant nose cars, and the documentation to prove it. It was a very early prototype, and Porsche built it, and realized there was no good place for headlights the stuck them in the bumper and lower valance. It does not have pop up headlights. Personally I think it is ugly, but it a rare car. I was never a fan of the Don Johnson era of slant nose 911s. Just my opinion.

The silver car just above is pretty cool Aluminum body slat nose and late enough in the production that the car looks finished and not a hack job.

LOL, the standard bodied turbo cabs are much better than the slant nose, IMO.

Very cool. I'd not heard of those. So Al is the color or what many of the body parts are made of (I'm assuming the latter).

I actually prefer the lights either down low in the valance like a 935 (like the DP935 above) or as pop-ups.

I'm not a fan of this look with the lights in the bumper.

Yes, it's amazing that you remember that. It's like a light soft wood.

Yes all aluminum body. This one was actually built for the Japanese market then imported to the USA. All interior script I could see in it was in German, less a couple of jamb stickers that were in Japanese, assuming required for original import. Porsche only built 10 of them and this is #5. I am not sure any of these were originally built for the US market.

slow&rusty 01-05-2022 04:33 AM

I love the Slant Nose. Always have...always will.
