Hope I didn’t screw up
A few months ago I posted a thread about running a water line to tie into local treated water company. I went with Polyethylene pipe.700 feet of it. We are in the second week of a power outage and if I need water I have to take my generator up the road where the utility line powers my well. Needless to say this got old quick. So, I dug out all snow covering the shut offs and switched to city water. My new problem is, the water tastes like plastic and my wife isn’t happy. Will this go away quickly? Did I screw up? Man o man I’m bumming!

I would think you would have to run quite a bit of water through the pipes to get rid of any old water/taste. Constant use, would be best.

That’s what I’m hoping. I have to believe that the plastic taste will fade with usage. Heck, they sell a lot of polyethylene pipe. The plumbing supply where I bought it said it is the pipe of choice for new water lines.

Maybe a water filter would help until it clears out?

I agree the taste will go away but you'll have to run the water for a bit to get the water that's been sitting and absorbing the flavor it off the pipe.

Yes, poly has been the pipe of choice for many years. This is not the cause.

Put in a carbon filter.
That taste may be from the city lines.

You just need to figure out a way to have your wife's best friend convince your wife that the plastic flavor is a feature, not a bug.

Best thing I ever did. Easy peasy and the difference in taste was remarkable.

It will take a while for a coating of minerals to coat the inside of the pipe. Then the taste will be fine. And a carbon filter is not that expensive if it is a bad plastic taste now.

Maybe you'll just get used to the taste and it'll be fine.

For drinking water an RO system at the sink would be ideal.

Maybe it’s psychological but the water is tasting better today. Oh, the wife has not complained.
