Out of the frying pan........
Into the path of an oncoming train.
Dude crashes his plane on a railroad crossing and lives only to be nearly taken out by an oncoming train. Someone was having a bad day.

Wow, that guy needs to never buy a lottery ticket ever again. He'll never win as all of his luck has been used.

The pilot was the only one using up their luck.
In this video the 1st half is the same police footage. The last half is video from a couple of guys down track and debris comes flying by them and one guy goes down. Not sure if he was dodging flying crap or was hit. https://youtu.be/ZttzsV9V88g |

I’d like to take a moment to express some gratitude for the officers that risked their own lives to save this guy.
Those guys are real heroes. |

That plane probably won’t have any black boxes but it does have a pilot that can tell the NTSB what went wrong.
Was the train even trying to slow down? |

Apparently, the iPod FDRs will be able to record over 500 hours of flight data. The smallest Cessna Citation that has a FDR is the 525B (CJ3), which weighs 14,075 lb MTOW. The FDR is required for commercial operational requirements in Europe. Europe requires FDR for commercial aircraft greater than 12,500 lb MTOW or 9 passengers. In the US, the requirement for FDR is only greater than 9 passenger seats. Russian Aviation Register require an FDR for all commercially operated aircraft, regardless of size. Therefore a 172 that was to be certified for commercial operation in Russia would require an FDR.

Was there a failure to notify in a timely manner whatever transit authority was in charge that there was a blockage on the track or was it just too close already.

The driver of the train is going to have to deal with a lot of **** over this which if it were me I'd have done whatever possible to avoid. Hopefully he passed the piss test.

They had a crash back in 2008 in the Santa Susana Pass. Turned out to be an engineer on his cellphone not paying attention. I'm wondering if this is the same deal. https://www.dailynews.com/2018/09/08/great-pain-and-big-advances-came-from-the-metrolink-crash-in-chatsworth-which-was-10-years-ago-on-wednesday/ There was a stop in Sylmar/San Fernando before the train headed to Sun Valley. I've ridden the train before, travel time between San Fernando and Sun Valley is approx 7 minutes. Seems like there would be enough time to notify.
