Vermont PCA…Should I Join?

So…I’m on my third 944, do all of my own maintenance…and have recently finished a major rehab (complete engine rebuild, plus overhaul/upgrade/refresh of many of the car’s components) of my current 944.

I’ve been thinking about joining the Green Mountain (Vermont) PCA, and while I understand that the PCA in general is more or less “911-centric” (while I do not own a 911, I still consider myself a 911 enthusiast), I also have a sense, having perused the GMPCA website, that this group is mostly into driving and socializing, with relatively less emphasis/interest surrounding mechanical aspects and DIY repair and upkeep. If this is indeed the case, then I’m a bit less certain that I’d want to join this group.

Then again, its been very lonely up here in my neck of the woods…Porsche-wise, and having a group of fellow enthusiasts to pal around with could be a good thing regardless of the group’s focus.

At any rate…if anyone here would care to comment about either the GMPCA, or the PCA generally, relative to my comments above - that would be great!

Go to a couple events, see if the culture is for you. Decide if you want to pony up the $100 then.

When introducing yourself, make sure to state you own a "well set up 944".

Even if it's not well set up. It will still scare them.

I have been a member in Niagara PCA since 95 and been through various stages of engagement. I would certainly recommend jumping in since there are many facets to PCA-AX, HPDE, Racing, car shows, rally's, plus a bunch of various events. I have dabbled in many aspects of the club over the years and now just instruct DE's and meet the track rats for breakfast.

The PCA catch phrase is "it's not the cars, it's the people" or some version of that and I find it to be true. Most of my best friends I have met through the club and while there is no shortage of drama and various BS, it is easy to avoid and tune out-extracting the parts you are most interested in.

I would not say PCA is all 911 focused, lots of variety and at least for NRPCA, not much snobbery

Go to a few meeting as a guest, and if you like the people there, join up.

My life had been immeasurably enhanced by my years in PCA. Sure there are some annoying times, but overall I have a lot of good friends I met through PCA. My wife and I ate dinner on Wednesday night with another couple that I have known for over 43 years. He is not real active in the club anymore and does not even own a Porsche now, yet he is a friend and we enjoy getting together a few times per month for dinner.

I say go for it.
There are quite a few 944's in the club.
356's, Boxsters, Cayman's, Cayenne's, Macan's,914's and 911's it's all good.
While not many are DIY types there are several that are including some shop owners.
Have been a member for 13 years and have enjoyed the company of other Porsche owners.
Mostly tours, never had a competitive event since i've been a member, but it has been discussed.
Give Brad a call (# is on the web site)
