30 grans of fiber
i think that's the recommendation for a male adult.
30 grams. might be 35 actually. that is a LOT. my double serving of oats is 7. eating that 3x a day wont get me there. add a salad. another 6. oh..half an avocado? 5. at the end of the day, how do you fit in meat? or candy? i suppose i could cheat and drink a glass of Metamucil daily.

I take Metamucil capsules every day. Just 4 in the mornings. The label on the bottle says I could take 5 at a time, up to 4 times per day.
![]() I guess if ya like to poop, that would be the way. The pills are simple and easy to take. The liquid will dirty a glass and a spoon and take time to mix up. The capsules are easy to swallow and I am done. They are just 2 grams of fiber each, but they make my doctor happy, and I don't have any issues that would warrant more fiber.

I think I ate a lot of oat bran (more fiber than oat meal, and I also found out that I liked it more). Other than what I was eating, there was some sort of daily concoction (I'm looking for the recipe now, but haven't found it) that was like a once (or twice) daily fiber "shot". You mixed, I think 3 ingredients with a little water. I think the ingredients were psyllium, inulin, and something else, maybe oat bran, but I'm not sure. I think that was able to add 15-20 gms of fiber per shot.

Just had a bowl of barley this morning as a change up from oat meal. Only 6 grams in that 1/4 cup serving, but took almost 30 minutes of prep and cook time using the microwave!

My retired dietician wife says 40 to 70 grams a day recommended which is a lot. Me? I try to eat an apple for breakfast a day as a starting point.
Fibre 1 made by General Mills has per one cup (54 grams) 13 grams of fibre or 52% with cereal. But too much of this can throw my stomach into an unsettled state. Also high fibre can impact blood cholesterol levels and possibly triglicererides in a good way. Too much meat and white bread are not good because of no fibre... |
