Who would have known about the rust under the fenders without removing them…now he made me worry about my own car…all that rust on a galvanized body.

Get off my lawn!

I always look carefully at the paint as I am drying the car off after a wash. I use old bath towels, and carefully dry every part of the car. Once long ago I noticed a little orange color coming from under the rubber trim of the rear quarter window.
I took it to my favorite body shop that knows old Porsches. He popped out the window and sure enough, there was a pencil eraser size spot of surface rust starting to form. He did the proper cleaning, and proper primer to seal the metal, and painted the area under the window itself. It had not rusted to the point the visible paint was affected. He sealed it all back up, and I was a happy man. My car had very high quality respray before I bought it. All we can guess if they somehow scratched through the paint at that spot when installing the rear quarter window. It helps a lot that my car is Grand Prix white. Funny color water runoff was easier to see. If I had ignored it or been oblivious I know it would have never "healed" and only become an expensive problem.

IDK, he did some cool tricks there. I've been down the road a few times. Once I fabricated 2/3rds of a section of a 911 A pillar. I still have a piece of A pillar cut out from a wreck. There are 3 pieces of metal wrapped up in that shape and spot welded.
Sorry that he had to use CC paint on an otherwise single stage paint car (assuming it was not already resprayed). This video should be cross posted into the 911 Tech forum. I'm sure the newbies would like it. Hell, some ol'bies might like it too. |
