another reason i dispise FWD, it's meant for people who cannot drive :D

I'll admit, when i got my cayman, i had been driving relatively tame sporty diesels for 10 years since my 944S before it.
Teh first 3-4 months, I was defo "behind" the Cayman driving wise. Had a few moments at speed where I had scared myself.
The car was much faster then I was able to process, and that was with the 211bhp tax limitation
Year after and a visit to Spa, I took off the tax limitation , back to 250 something horses.. And 2 more visits to spa, last time i was there we had wet snow..
all the big hp wide tire Porsches were being pussyfooted around, braking silly before corner, and only gunning it on straights, i'de catch em and overtake em in the corners to the point they couldn't catch up in the straights
I was still going faster through Eau Rouge in the wet then the previous year in the dry.
had a passenger next to me, and at some I was drifting 4 wheels on the way up Raidillion.. And it felt just fine and dandy.

It's really a wonderful thing to be in sync with a car to the point where you don't care bout rain or whatever the weather throws at you, in terms of fast driving. (also nice when your the mechanic and you can trust your own work completely to all speeds)

Your 3rd track day and you are the fastest car in the wet?

Sounds like you could do a nice drift?
My technique is to have the right foot on the gas and the left foot on the brake to control weight transfer.

1 I didn't say that it was my 3rd track day , 3rd time at Spa
2 It wasn't "racing", it was open pit driving around a track with road cars, not track prepped cars, think of it as a club day
3 Just had narrower tires and lower hp, which is a big advantage in the wet
4 As soon as it dried up , advantage gone

It's simply weird how often this exact accident happens with the same vehicle. I can't imagine the mentality of people standing in that spot as cars exit and attempt burnouts...even if there were no Mustangs participating. With Mustangs...Russian roulette. :eek:

Porsches usually have better traction and, I suspect most Porsche owners leave the PSM/TC on and don't attempt to wow the crowd with a smokey burnout. There are also a lot fewer Porsches on the road than mustangs, I'd wager. And the avg Porsche owner is likely older and potentially smarter (WRT, staying out of trouble and self preservation) than the avg mustang owner.

So, there are probably several reasons why this happens more with the pony cars (mustangs, camaros, challengers, chargers) than 911s and Coxsters.

I don't think anyone has ever said that it NEVER happens to Porsches or that it ALWAYS happens to EVERY mustang.

But, stereotypes are often based on something that has seemed like a pattern to someone...

I generally don't understand watching road cars go by, I went to Classic Le Mans and that was ok for a couple of hours watching all them cars in the paddocs and stuff.. and yeah, the roar as they decel into a corner is amazaballs, but then that is the cream of the crop, and even that wore boring real fast.. The main thing I got out of it, was wanting to drive ON the track with i did 8 months later.

As a kid we had the rally of Ypres, and that was kinda fun, Group B era.. probably just as dangerous to watch as a Cars and Coffe with Stangs..
but at least you saw something really far out.. Still As soon as I had my drivers license, and Post Group B, Rally lost it's appeal to me..
Now the rally of Ypres is mostly an annoyance to me, because that's the one time of year that the farm rouds are off limits to me and cops are out to get anybody speeding or thinking of speeding.

So going to a street , at night , to watch street legal , lets face it rather ordinary cars go by and perhaps get a bit of tire smoke(best case) or worst case see some real Stang action (which nobody really wants to see up close), I really don't get the appeal. I rather do something then watch something.

What goes on inside the "castle" that Jim posted is a whole different kind of "violent medieval scenes" than I think Geronimo was talking about.
