The Repair Shop on Discovery

Not sure how new this series is but I find it very appealing, very entertaining. The 'Shop' is set in the English countryside in an old, but updated barn. They mostly preserve, rather than restore all sorts of things like small pieces of antique furniture, china, toys, clocks, radios, etc. There are many 'master' craftsman 'employed there. A leather expert, clock maker, pottery, china, furniture restorer, painting / art restorer, soft goods restorers (like for Teddy bears)

Completely opposite of what you may think, focusing on each person hands-on skills with basic tools and techniques. All of the items have a great back-story which is near and dear to the family or person presenting it for repairs. No drama at all, but rather bringing each piece back to it's former glory.

I highly recommend it, I DVR'd the series and each is as compelling as the next.

I watched that years ago, I thought it was interesting. I think it was a little more staged than just some random little workshop in the middle of nowhere but it was still fun to watch then repair all that stuff.

I just did a search on my Tivo, and is says there are 8 seasons now. I set up a one pass to record any upcoming showings. It sounds interesting.

Steve the clock/watch guy is amazing. To see what he does with clocks and animated toys is always interesting. It's amazing how many Teddy Bears get run through that place. It's my go to whenever I'm in the dentist chair.

Enjoyable to watch if I don't have anything better at the time. I like the English setting and the projects, although they don't go into much detail on on them.

Good show, the entire family enjoys it. I do wish they would stretch out the format to show even more of the "how it's done" aspect of each repair just because I find that most fascinating but that would slow the pace and probably appeal to fewer viewers. Also appreciate how they have so many different disciplines coming together and often collaborating together on projects.

I have always gotten the impression that the show was showcasing the talents of local folks that belong to non-profit preservation society (possibly on a working historic farm like Greenfield village in Michigan). No money changes hands, so it is more of a honored service, than a contract.

I look forward to seeing this show, and it's slow pace.

The experts are all professionals and the BBC pays their salaries to make the show.

Dominic Chinea the metalworker is a Porsche owner, as you can see from his Instagram account.

Yep - I've seen several episodes. I recorded one to watch later - as it mentioned a vintage jigsaw was to be repaired. Since I'm into woodworking and tools I thought that would be very interesting. When I sat down to watch it - come to find out it was a vintage jigsaw PUZZLE! Not the power tool. Those English just call a puzzle - a jigsaw - so I found out.

I watch it all the time. It's part of our free to view stuff. I rather like how genuine and caring they are.

My wife and I watch them. Low key, nobody screaming at us and no one has been killed.

It's like comfort food for a broken soul when I turn that show on...everything, and all the craftsmen (women), and the customers are laid back, and not stressed out. It's so much different than the normal TV drivel, and touches on history, and family.

So if they do a American version they will hire the Tuttles to scream and throw things at each other and slam doors, and yell at the clients?

Even the host who seems to 'oversee' the rest is quite a restoration craftsman. I watched I think 3 seasons about 3 years ago. You say there are more? I don't have cable.

Yes, it was staged and filmed to be a series. Each of the crafts persons has their own business/studio.

There was another series on BBC that originally had a lot of repair on camera. Then it turned into a version of "American Pickers." I can't find the name but the main dude commissioning restoration work for his antiques business was "Drew." His ex wife (Rebecca) was a presenter as well doing research.

(Edit) I corrected the dude's name to Drew. There are 2 series: "Salvage Hunters" and "Salvage Hunters: The Restorers." The 2nd one is hard to find, but it is everything that the "Repair Shop" is.
