That's when people asked about the speed cameras which were installed, monitored and run by an Arizona company with California getting some of the "profits".

Of course all of a sudden there was talk of an "exemption" for that company.

Was awesome when they spent millions installing those cameras in Arizona, with a cut of the proceeds going to some company out of country (Australia, I believe). Then we Arizonans decided we didn't like those cameras much, and voted to have them all removed. State lost a ton of money--good.

I lived in a city where red-light cameras were installed. They made a lot of money, but that was not enough. They started shortening the yellow lights until it was really hard not to run them, and people were causing accidents slamming on their brakes. When exposed, people demanded they be removed.

Speed cameras are a stupid idea come up with by stupid people (who probably do not drive).

Speeding camera will really F up the traffic even more in CA.

Few years ago, I was tagged speeding in Calgary in a rental van near the university on HWY1 going out to Banff. A month later, I has a ticket send to me through the mail. Since I am a good boy, I paid it. I think it was 78 bucks. I may have been doing 10 km over? No we should not have speeding camera across the nation.

A couple of red light camera's were installed around napa a few years ago. Arizona company behind it. In the first two months they garnered almost half a million bucks from people making a rolling right turn. One of the camera's malfunctioned and a local judge said anyone who was ticketed in the last year can get refunded. I'm pretty sure that judge had received a ticket. The city removed the camera's.

The wife of a friend of mine had a week long seminar in AZ several years ago. She had to travel from her hotel every night to the site. She came home saying there were flashing lights in the desert at night. She received 6 speeding tickets in the mail. It was a very expensive seminar

I doubt if anybody here has a car that can outrun a speedcamera.

We had redlight cameras here in NJ. They were challenged and found to be unconstitutional and were removed. I am not sure if speed cameras were/have been removed? Anyone that uses an EZ-pass can be tracked and ticketed.

Uniden R3 rakes care of me

Wasn't there some "Urban Myth" going around that the way to beat a ticket was that legally you have to face your accuser in court. Therefore they would have to uninstall the camera and bring it into the courtroom?

Seemed hokey to me, don't know if it would actually work.

GH85Carrera 02-02-2022 06:07 AM

I just wonder how many of the cameras would get a nice solid hit from a deer hunter. They would be nice targets.

I'm pretty sure the tickets are a civil-law thing. Like a parking ticket but far more expensive.

Now the felony speeding I nearly got gifted in AZ was a criminal matter. Luckily I met a very kind state patroller. Then again, why would you NOT be doing 95 on I-40 in east Arizona after being behind a twenty mile long, 65.35 vs 65.4 mph, semi-truck drag race?

I of course would never recommend target practice (errant shots/unsure backstop and all of that), but wasn't someone throwing tires on them and lighting them on fire in the UK a few years back? Seems fair to me.

I also got a red light ticket years ago when they were legal in Texas. It was a right turn that was set up to be a yield turn and then they added a camera. So totally revenue enhancement. I called to tell them I didn't run the light and they gave me a link to the camera footage. Sure enough, I barely slowed down :)

gregpark 02-02-2022 07:16 AM

^ if it's a100% safe maneuver you shouldn't be ticketed. If you are it's a revenue generator

gregpark 02-02-2022 07:19 AM

Texas and Arizona should have been pointing those cameras at the border instead of the highways

GH85Carrera 02-02-2022 07:40 AM

Back in 2010 I was in the Chicago area, (St. Charles) and they had red light cameras. I did notice a lot of people slamming on brakes and not running a light. But I bet they had a lot of rear end collisions. In Oklahoma no front tag is required, and I sure don't have one.

One light near the hotel I had stopped at more than once was really long. It was marginal if I made the right turn on yellow in time, but if the camera took a picture of the front of my car, they did not get a tag. After 12 years I have yet to get a ticket in the mail.

The red light cameras sure had the local drivers slamming on brakes. Around here only fools take off instantly at the green light. I see red light runners all the time. And right turns on red are taken at full speed.

Speed cameras on interstates? No, thank you. Speed cameras on city streets? Yes, please, and everywhere.

Not true here for sure, but just to add salt to the wound, camera tickets have no associated demerit points, unless you want to fight it in court. In order to fight it, you have to admit you were driving, at that point they assign demerit points to the ticket. Most would rather pay the ticket than risk paying the ticket and getting points.

Plus, no traffic officer you can hope doesn't show in court.

I got two notices in the mail in Texas and blew them off for a few weeks since I couldn't read them. A neighbor read them for me and then helped me pay them online. It was 60 euros each if paid within the first 30 days. I paid them about 30 days late and they were still 60 euros. I guess they were just happy that someone paid them.

whut, you paid those??

You think they will debt collect over in US A?

Unless I had plans to be regularly in esPAIN, I would ave ignored the living chit out of thaem tickets and them tickets would have become administrative dust in their archives..

Hell even if you do end up on their border, it's doubtful they would bug you over it, and if so, you could simply pretend you never got any tickets..

This is a Porsche forum I'm pretty sure at least somebody will have a car that can do 180mph+

Any modern Turbo, GT3 , Gt4 , GT2 can outrun a pulse doppler fixed speed camera with plenty of margin at V max.

Even a regular 992 C2 at 177mph will probably just make it (but it would be very costly if he doesn't)
