Speed Cameras Across Our Nation?

I don't remember anyone saying we needed them.

"When the country applauded $1.2 trillion going to fixing the roads, bridges and buildings, a lot of us were dumb enough to think that's what might actually happen,' he said."

And the nation's deaths/mile traveled ratio is the best it's ever been.

Can this be stopped? Apparently Britain has them and they.are.despised!

Ps I'm tired of having to learn things from foreign press. I'm shocked - with all the car related stuff I read - that no algorithm steered me to an American media story on this. Shocked but not shocked I guess...

It's all about controlling the masses...

Something we have had here for awhile, and something long demonstrated to be purely financial with no positive impact on safety. In fact, just the opposite. Here they were legislated to stop putting them on highways as they cause accidents when motorists slow in an unanticipated manner.

There go any more Cannonball record attempts.

Go fast enough and the plate image comes out blurry and unusable....

Haha, true. There are also things you can spray on your plate to make them unreadable, or so I am told anyway, I'd never do something like that [emoji6]

My brother was tagged on the way to Normandy in 2018. He was worried but the fine amounted to $17.

I think a couple/few people have tested how fast you've got to be going before they don't get your plate, and I believe it's well into triple digits. I think one of the tests got a readable plate at a speed north of 150. (mythbusters or Jeremy, Hamster, and Capt Slow or maybe both).

It may depend on the setup and other circumstances.

I was driving from Garmisch Germany to Innsbruck several years ago. Real B roads with little towns as you go over the mountains.

I forgot to or didn't slow down enough as I entered one town. Austrian police officer was standing on side of road with a lollipop and motioned me over. Scared to death because our nanny from Bulgaria was in the car with us and didn't have visa for Austria.

Paid about $40 to the officer on the spot and went on my merry way.

They even had full size cardboard cut outs of officers back then on side of roads just to slow people down.

There is a fotofinish at the end of the B500 schwarzswald hochstrasse.
Just before entering Baden Baden
I think i paid 160 something to get the souvenir sent home. Totally worth it
Very nice service for tourists on road trips

Maybe they're just trying to generate a little bit of revenue, you know, until the over 80k new IRS Agents start earning their keep.

Don't believe the hype....friend is a cop, they tried them all and none worked. I was kidding about the go fast bit, also does not work unless you get truly unreasonable.

My brother on his R1000 cut the bottom two anchors for his plate and hinged the top ones. Now if he is fast enough for a ticket, he is fast enough for his plate to fly parallel to the ground. So far that works lol.

I remember back in 2010 when California was going to boycott all public contracts with Arizona businesses due to Arizona's enforcement of Federal Immigration Laws.

That's when people asked about the speed cameras which were installed, monitored and run by an Arizona company with California getting some of the "profits".

Of course all of a sudden there was talk of an "exemption" for that company.

I got got tagged twice in Spain a few years ago. The locals must have known because they'd fly by me and then I'd slowly pass them.

I got two notices in the mail in Texas and blew them off for a few weeks since I couldn't read them. A neighbor read them for me and then helped me pay them online. It was 60 euros each if paid within the first 30 days. I paid them about 30 days late and they were still 60 euros. I guess they were just happy that someone paid them.

red-beard 02-01-2022 02:25 PM

Red-Light cameras are now illegal in Texas. Not sure about speed cameras.
