I still play with garden tractors (used to race my own designed/built alcohol gocart), and have played around with dirt/mini bikes all my life. The design aspect, and the build quality is what intrigues me.

I have been casually watching these for a couple of years. Currently have 5 bicycles to cut apart for my first pedal 4-wheeler. Putting anything but an electric motor on it and you have DMV and insurance mandates. I will be going electric after the pedal prototype is debugged.

I'm looking at mini construction with 12" spoked wheels in front. No body to add weight. It's all cool to look 1920's, but it gets expensive and impractical. I mean what is the point? The point is to experience movement on wheels close to the ground.

That's absolutely the entire attraction. If you want high efficiency, ride a real bike, recumbent or conventional.
Low CG is fun.

Going through the effort of building one without making it conform to the guidelines of the Tieton GP group would be short sighted because going there to participate should be the goal, no? Or, maybe starting a mid-country and right coast event?

My ADHD is killing me.
Until yesterday, I'd never really looked at the older race cars. I didn't get the memo on this endeavor. Now, as usual, I'm hooked.

We've got a significant amount of unpatrolled gravel roads out here in the boondocks.
One could travel miles with little/no problem. Nearby is a a limitless expanse of national forest with mixed use gravel roads where this shouldn't be more a problem than the average ATV hunter, or the average redneck with a couch in the pickup bed filled with his family rolling boones farm bottles out the back.

Immediately, this gets my engineering mind in gear and I'm installing a 2stroke KX engine and linkages for gear changes, etc.. Then I need more brakes. Then I want better suspension...

but something keeping to the rules has it's appeal too. Simple low to the ground fun. Clearly they've got this figured out better than I do- but I'd want it to excel here where I'd use it.

Add this to my list of things I have no earthly time for, but can't get off my mind.

Cool thing is they are loosely basing these off the original racers- here's one I was completely unaware of.

I think that's ticket. It would be fun to have one and drive it around for a while, but the real blast would be getting together with a bunch of other knuckleheads like in the first video.

I also like how they have the powertrain specs pretty well set (and less than $500 too). Looks like most of the creativity goes into the outer body design. That kind of suits me.

Yeah, I don't need any other projects either

Spent a good part of last evening reading the requirements, looking at parts, and researching old race cars! I have family in the Yakima Valley and in the Seattle area, so.... a road trip may be in my future! You could easily load one of these in the back of a pickup! There may be a bunch of work going on in the shop this spring!

I get a bigger kick out of the Oil Drum Cars. Much less expensive to build (not recreating old car) and just as much fun !! Grassroots build and racing. I will leave cyclekarts to the folks with disposable income.

The two guys at the start of the video in the red and orang Fez hats are both good friends of mine. That's Dan Stettler's voice narrating the first part, and he shows up again later in the video (identified as such, so I don't feel bad disclosing his real name here). He's driving the wooden boat tailed car, in the red Fez, and my buddy Karl is driving the #406 in the orange Fez. Both are Pac West chapter R Gruppe members. They have been after me for years to join them in this endeavor as well, but I just don't have room to store one of these right now. And yes, they are an absolute hoot to drive.

I don't know, but around here I would want a soft suspension, long travel, articulating outfit that could traverse some mud, bumps, plowed fields, and not sound like a killer Bee.

I'm thinking E-Quad with bicycle fat tires, 1000W 48V motor, and off road suspension, but not for this price.
