Lightbulb LED outdoor Solar Lights - motion sensor for security and general illumination

Most of my outdoor lighting is wired, whether for landscaping or security/walkways.

Thought something solar powered would be more convenient, so I just bought these and am going to install them right now.

Will report back.

I bought a 3-pack of single head solar motion activated lights about 3 years ago. Still going strong. Can be a little weak after a dark, rainy day (which we have once every 10 years).

I just bought a solar powered motion sensor light from the orange box store about 2 weeks ago and installed it (probably illegally) on the power pole at the front of our driveway. We are the only driveway on a dead end road and have already been the "recipient" of a pickup truck of trash and junk unloaded out on the road. We figured with a motion sensor light - it might be a deterrent to a recurrence.

The instructions suggest it be fully charged 3 days before installation. It does a great job of lighting up the cul-de-sac for us. Model #, SKU, etc are on the top right of the image. I can probably get some unlit/lit pictures if someone is interested.

After giving this some more thought, I think some that did not depend on motion sensors would be more practical in certain applications. These are usually referred to as "dusk to dawn". They would just have the photo cell and come on when the sun sent down and go back off when the sun came up. All on solar power.

They have some of these with the solar panel on a extension so you can mount the light independently of where the panel had to go, giving more flexibility in location.

That discussion aside, I just checked and all 4 light fixtures are working as advertised. I'm happy with their performance.

Took all of 15 minutes to mount all 4.

Pics:

These ones have 3 modes. One mode stays on low and brightens when motion is detected. I have them on the mode where they just stay on the lower setting all the time, regardless of any motion. Easy to change modes - just press a button.

They come with extensions but I mounted mine without the extensions - directly to the side of my roof panel:

And this is the other fixture with the 3 lights that swivel around. They stay off unless motion is detected.

Got some more lights - all solar powered.

These don't have the motion detectors. Just dusk to dawn.

Here's a green light version I'm still experimenting with. Just like the others - very easy to install, re-locate, remove - as needed.

I will be using these just to add some accent lighting to areas I already have my landscape lighting.

Fun!
