There is a tool for everything.
I have a Skagen watch, which I don't use much, with a dead battery.
I tried every screwdriver and knife to get the back off...no go...scratched the back trying. Ordered one of these from amazon yesterday for $8...it arrived today. First try...the back came off. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07KY8BYFQ?psc=1&ref=ppx_yo2_dt_b_product_details https://m.media-amazon.com/images/I/...AC_SL1100_.jpg |
Cuticle pusher?
|
I tried to get the front bezel off an old Iwatch to replace the battery. Even heated it up and never could get it apart. Finally threw it out.

Nope...you push the sharp edge into the gap, and then use the plastic handle to pry up from the watch base. If you don't use the watch base as a fulcrum...it won't work. The lid comes off instantly. |
Looks like a stubby screwdriver with the tip ground to a chisel point to me!
|
the distance from the edge to the plastic is critical.
It makes the perfect leverage for the removal. |
It even arrives with a plastic cover for the edge...just so you won't hurt yourself.
|
I'll bet I could have made a stubby screwdriver ground to a a chisel point work! That and a 3lb mini sledge will fix about anything.

Skagen's don't deserve that! I've worn their watches for over 20 years...they are the best. |
I wouldn't know. I quit wearing a watch when the old flip phones came out with a screen on the lid that showed the time and date. Haven't looked back.
|
Skagens fit to your arm...you don't even know they are there.
Sometimes I don't carry my phone...then I still know the time....win!! |

My next chore is finding a replacement battery.
Any suggestions as to finding a sr621sw battery? |
Amazon would be my first place to look.
Just did a quick look. Looks like you can use a 364 battery too. That should be something you can find at Walmart. |
Any batteries plus stores near you?
|
Amazon. 20 of them for $7
|
Looks like CVS has the Duracell 364. I'd guess Walgreens would have something too if you want one quick.
|
Walmart it will be first...hopefully. If not...then Amazon.
Or CVS |
here's a great video for any watch battery replacement.

I just go to a jewelry store, pay for them to change batteries... |
I wonder if that'll work on my Charles Hubert pocket watch. Covid killed my local watch shop.
|
^^^Not very many jewelry stores left around here to buy a battery. Which is too bad.
Now that I've got the battery out...I'll get a new one easily enough. |

I was totally surprised how easily this tool worked on my watch. |

If it's a pressed on back...a tool like this is perfect.
The key to the removal is that the plastic part sits on the watch base and acts like a fulcrum. Without the leverage...it's dam* near impossible to get the cover off. |
Pretty lengthy video covering the removal of most types..

You don’t even have to look at ‘em and it still works. |
^^^ But what about when the power goes off?? The cell towers don't work and you can't tell the time?
The Skagen watches keep workin! |

^^^ good one!

The price of a new Skagen (on Amazon) is about $125
Everyone of them that I've owned have lasted at least 5 years. Money well spent. |
Bergeon is a watch tool company based in Switzerland.
They make some really nice tools and lubricants for watches but they are a lot more expensive than anything made in Asia. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1644464188.jpg |
i just use the can opener part on my swiss amy knife. looks very similiar to the Bergeon "blade" part.

Proof positive that you can indeed teach an "old dog" new tricks! :) But rather than kevlar gloves, you might try not pulling the knife towards yourself or any body parts in general. Your call. |
The curved edge is probably also an important feature.
|
I don't wear watches, but that tool looks like it could have several uses, like opening oysters for example.
|
Question for the OP, stevej37, can you tell where your Skagen watch is made? Its unclear from searching on da web.
Thanks. |
I wasn't really sure...but I found this...
https://watcheswebs.com/where-are-skagen-watches-made/#:~:text=In%20the%20past%2C%20Skagen%20watches%20w ere%20made%20in,but%20feature%20Miyota%20quartz%20 movements%20imported%20from%20Japan. I like them especially because of the thin fit. Never gets bumped or caught on anything. |
