Seems like you've learned a valuable lesson. Don't take cars that are DUI interlocked.

So you are saying I should chug a couple of 40's, and give it a whirl in the AM?
I also like to drive like Andretti, whenever I see those OBD dongles from the insurance companies . Power slide around a few corners, do some abrupt stops, and launch like I am at Pomona .

Here's what you do-
1. Call client- Tell him the time you invested with interlock incorporated. Blame it on them. You followed instructions. It didn't work. It's interlock's problem. 2. P.M. ppot member in las vegas area. Get the going rates for blow/suck/blow procedures in said area. Charge that for interlock fees in future. 3. Leave client a cleveland steamer in the trunk to offset your impending google review. ![]() 4. Get on with life. - This sounds like my kind of day!!!! ![]() Last edited by LEAKYSEALS951; 02-10-2022 at 02:36 PM.. |

[QUOTE=fastfredracing;11604060]They are super finicky. All the ones I have tried in the past, I found it very difficult to make them work. Some you had to hum while you blew.
That sounds like fun if she'd agree

DUI interlock device, would you blow in it ? - Nope!
Back in the day when I was doing my Medic's training in the Army they decided it would be a good idea for us to work in a public hospital. I ended up working in the Hepatitis and infectious diseases ward at the Royal Prince Alfred Hospital (Sydney NSW's - Australia). You had to don a full gown, gloves and mask just to enter a room. And then you had to go through and elaborate hygiene procedure once you had left the room. I worked there for about 10 days and in that time three civilian nurses contracted Hep B. These nurse did all the right things and followed all procedures. ![]() Scary stuff for a 20 year old.

I’d blow thru a longer hose I sourced. No way I’m reversing that back into my lungs.
Which is odd because I’ve siphoned gas before and gotten some into my mouth. Probably took five years off my life. ![]()

I watched my dad do that too many times to remember and he's made it to 82. But that's back when gas had lead in it rather than corn liquor.

Customer drinks and drives, gets busted and receives a court order to have the device installed in her car.
And she's not happy with you. _

hey even machines need a pickmeup once in a while
![]() Yeah that's a medical issue, especially with the 'rona going around. That's like deep lip-locking some unknown stranger except it's a machine. Just don't. You are not wrong in this. Contact the mfr via email or another proven method. If they don't have a bypass kit method, or replacement unit, ask for an approved shop to send it to. Your time. Your money.

Since I had a friend die because of a DUI driver, I would of told the customer to please just go away and start using Fentanyl to get it over with quicker.
NO sympathy here....

As others have said, I would ask the customer to make themselves available when you want to try to start the car. Beyond that, I would bill for the time you have spent trying to bypass the interlock device. Especially in this day and age, no one should expect anyone else to put their mouth on, blow into, and suck from any device such as this. They have made their own bed. It's their responsibility to deal with any cost and/or inconvenience associated with it.
If they refuse any of this, simply tell them to come and pick it up however they can manage that. If they won't, have it impounded. Bill for the time you have spent, and charge a storage fee for the time it took up space in your shop. If they refuse to pay, simply put a mechanic's lien on the vehicle.

This is a job for the dealership. I wouldn't touch the thing. Now you've learned to turn those jobs away saying only the factory software will reverse the problem.
And if I'm reading all of this correctly, the customer was forced to have this device installed and then it did what it was supposed to do. I wouldn't want that customer. He's a drunk. My thinking is that the jurisdiction that ordered this device installed has the key. Therefore, if the DUI violator violates the law again, they get to know. That would seem obvious. Did I miss something? |
