I want to put modern bindings on my dad's old early-70's Head 360s and give them a whirl. Go out there and relive when "skiing was dangerous and sex was safe".

An original first year, hand made & hand painted set of "The Ski" skis. 185cm which was considered short in the day.

I worked for Crested Butte (CBMR) for years long ago... Skied every day from my office. Those were the days....

I had this exact same combination of equipment in about 1978 or 1979: (had the poster on my wall, too)

Blue and yellow The Ski, (bases were always yellow, like this) Spademan bindings and Scott Superhot boots.

I was never as good through the bumps as Bob Burns, though.

I remember The Ski, never tried though. I've wrecked many skis over the years. There was a deal at Any Mountain way back when, if you paid full retail they promised a life time warranty. I really liked the Pre in the bumps but they were a metal top ski. After I returned the third bent pair they said no more moguls. Okay, gimme something that you'll guarantee. A couple more returns and that was that. I think they ended the offer just to get rid of ME. It was a dumb program anyway, you blew out an edge on a rock and the ski is junk.

When I was in middle school in the 70's my dad got me my first pair of used skis from a friend of his. They were old Kneissl's probably late 60's early 70's. They came with short hard leather Kastinger boots that were too big for me. lol I delaminated the tips and edges after a season or two from jumping on icy SW Michigan small jumps. Next in junior high I got a brand new pair of cheap entry level Elan package skis. I proceeded to delaminate a tip my first time skiing on them. took them back to the local ski shop and they gave me a new pair. I proceeded to delam both tips on new set. Took them back and store manager ended up giving me a used pair of OLIN Mark IV's instead and I skied on those for many years before getting job at ski shop and moving up to dealer rep deal high end race skis.

Just finished waxing a couple sets of skis for my upcoming trip. Gotta be faster than my buddies for our annual last run of day "Chinese downhill". :)

I recall demo-ing some Kneissl white stars. Really stable ski at speed. Good enough for James bond!

OMG! Those white ones are what I had except they had blue trim not red. What year were those?

I was on the mountain today and there were a lot of people. At this time of the year the number of tourists is pretty high. I bailed about 3 hours into the day because the lift lines were getting long and the traffic on the slopes was getting treacherous.

You guys and your ‘long’ skis…

My boy is 11 and rocking 161 cm GS skis all over the mountain…

Love the OP video. I remember all of those arguments. Doesn't seem that much has changed. I fully expect when skiing to see snowboarders sitting on the ground anywhere they please and usually in the middle of the trail or slope. And always at the flat area before a downhill. While skiers stand to the side they just plop down anywhere.

A close relative was skiing a few years back and while standing to the side of a flat spot before going down the hill got totally destroyed by a snowboarder. She ended up with an ACL tear as a result.

Cat is out of the bag now and there is not putting it back in.

The sociable, friendly and helpful part of me moves to the edge so as not to get in the way.

The don't-wanna-get-creamed-and-die part of me moves to the edge so as to avoid the, you know, creamed/death stuff.

He wound up in 3rd place for U12 men.

Rode chair at Keystone with 3 Boarders this morning. Gave them a history lesson on the origins of snowboards. None had ever heard of Sherm Popped and the Snurfer.
They were impressed when I told them about making our own Snurfers and meeting and competing against Jake Burton and his early board at the National Smurfing Championships in '78.
They wondered why I only ski. Probably some internet searching later.
