The finest of the fishes - I'll even put up with my GR family for some walleye!

(OK, I guess the grands want to see our little kiddo too, but I want to see some of that fish!)

The madness starts this time of year on the Maumee during the walleye run. I'll just go to Culvers. Looks a lot easier.

When we lived in Stillwater, MN in the 70s and early 80s, our family were on the St. Croix river nearly every weekend with 2 to 5 other families, we set up camp way up the river and the men would go out fishing while the womenfolk stayed behind and had too much chardonnay. We'd catch a ton of walleye for dinner that night cooked on cast iron over an open fire. Amazing times.

Culver's also has a great cod fillet sandwich....but cod is no match to walleye.
Some area Culvers may not have the walleye...we always do here and I would guess Wisconsin also would have it.

They also have a butterfly jumbo shrimp basket that is great!

It'd be nice if during the walleye run there were only 2-5 other families on the river in any given location. Place is shoulder to shoulder. I've actually never caught a walleye. I don't have the "feel". My brother and my friends all say they have a really soft bite.

What's the difference in taste with walleye vs cod? Never had walleye.

I think walleye has a "fishier" taste than cod.

Cod has no taste.
Walleye has a smooth fish taste that is delicious....similar to blue-gills.

I guess I'd have to try it. I'm not into really fishy tasting seafood like Mackerel. I do like a Filet O' Fish, loved them since I was a kid. Now for Lent McD's has them 2 for $5.

What's a wallkeye ? Bass... sometimes they'll hit a plastic worm with a vengence, sometimes you'll never know it, unless you're watching them (clear, shallow water) or see your line slightly move. I "catch & release", and don't want them to swallow the lure and move before I even know it's been taken.

Sometimes... for every bass that hits a lure... six more just touch it with their nose and go "NOPE, you are NOT Vash, and I ain't yer fool today" ....

I was once snorkeling through heavy reeds slowly and came face-to-face with a three foot version of the other pike right in front of my face with jaws gaping. Scared the crap outta me. Looked like a gator.

Lake Erie has Walleye fishing and is shallow. Not sure if the others are the same.

I wish we had Walleye out west. I did a canoe fishing trip in the border waters once (Minnesota/ Canada) and caught a bunch. Best eating fish I've ever had, salt or fresh
