Insurance question...
Our home owner's policy is up for renewal this coming month and the wife pestered me to get a new valuation done before we pay. Last est was done in 2014 so I guess it was time for a new one. The new one came in +$71k more than the 2014 est.
Now I'm wondering about insuring the cameras, computers and sewing machines too. For what the agent's guy says it sounds like they're covered by a 'contents' portion of the HO's policy, but it has a $2500 deductible attached to that portion. What is 'reasonable' for a separate policy to cover say $75k worth of 'stuff' with no deductible? This is the first time I've ever dealt with this kind of thing but I can see that with the investment in all the 'stuff' we should maybe do more than let it ride on the HO policy. Any advice would be most welcome. For what it's worth, we had an agent for a long time whom we kept when we moved to the OC. He decided to retire after a number of years so I got on the internet and figured out how to transfer our policies to an agent down here. I've never actually spoken to him, only his guy in the office. The agent hasn't actually had to 'work' at all for my business, IMO. Advice on that 'relationship' would be welcome too.

Our insurance policy for our house is for "replacement value" and as weird as it sounds, a house can often cost more to build again than it is worth as your current home. If our house burns down or is destroyed by a tornado, I want to be able to build a new house.
Our contents is a percentage of the house value. No doubt replacing the furniture and clothes and other "stuff" would be expensive. I have a separate umbrella policy for my wife's jewelry, and other valuable antiques. We really need to do a new inventory, and walk through video to show the house and contents.
