				West Side Story

Not much to say except it is a near perfect version of the original story. Sets, choreography, SINGING, acting... Spielberg created a gem for all time that you will happily see to have your heart ripped in two.

The trailer looks great. But they always do. What a great job having Rita Moreno in the remake.

I don't usually like remakes. I know a lot of people liked the remake of A Star is Born but I didn't especially the ending where jack dies. I don't expect this to be as good for me as the original, as Jeff said kinda sacred, but it looks promising and I am looking forward to seeing it. Don, that's the A Star is Born story arc. I have to admit I wished a little that WSS could get a Once Upon a Time in Hollywood treatment for the ending.

EDIT: See mistakes. I enjoyed Once Upon A Time in Hollywood and La, La Land but somethings just shouldn't be toyed with. A Once Upon A Time in Hollywood twist is fine, just make a new movie. WSS is based on Romeo and Juliette so make a new version with a new name and ad the twist but don't call it West Side Story. I am introgued by the trailer to this movie and agree it largely remains true to the original. I do like that they found a way to subtly write Rita Moreno in, nice touch and stayed true to the original. Way to many good/great movies have been redone only to screw them up. Could you imagine a New Bullit, LeMans or Rocky? Last edited by drcoastline; 12-11-2021 at 10:23 AM.. | ||

Westside Story is one of my all time favs. It always struck me as odd that there was only one Puerto Rican in the original. If the remake is true to the music and story then I'll probably enjoy it.

It does look fantastic but I also sort of think that the original is sacred. Mixed feelings on this. At least it's not crap like a lot of current content.

One of my Favorites as well. Saw a great version put on by the theater department at Saint Bonaventure High School in Ventura about a decade and a half ago, and an EPIC version put on by Oaks Christian High School two years earlier. In both cases, the student actors seemed to really identify with the characters, they were great productions. It is a timeless story that seems to speak to many generations of American teen agers. Gotta see this new release (though I think the original movie is pretty special).

I'm definitely seeing it again. I think it will be even better a second time. It will be slower, better to drink it all in, catch things that flew by the first time.

Half the dialog is in Spanish and Spielberg doesn’t want to sully his movie with subtitles. Do people really go to non animated musicals anymore? Did it really need to be remade?

I worked on some reshoots for 'The Fabelmans" which is his next big feature to be released next Thanksgiving. It's semi autobiographical, sort of his "coming of age" story. It's starring Seth Rogan so who knows, he may have 2 bombs in a row on his hands.

No remake necessary. And certainly not from woke-tard cultural marxists.

Second bomb for Spielberg. Ninth bomb for Rogan.

saw it again tonight, better the second time, more relaxed, you can appreciate the musical side as much as the story side. A rare film that the audio keeps up with the visual. Maybe surpasses it though is was shot beautifully.
