My son convinced me to enter a cardboard boat race…

Got any ideas?

We slide down a hill and into a pond of slush… bring on the shrinkage.

Well today is the big day…

We started with sonotubes.

We added a bulkhead in the middle of each so they wouldn’t get crushed.

We fit ends to each.

We taped the end caps in to seal them up well.

We installed a platform as a top.

Need more deets on the costumes. Hopefully tutus at least - it was pretty strong last weekend at Gd Targhee, the lifities were nabbing bras from the (duh) bra tree and going topless-ish.

Spring skiing is the best skiing. Why anyone would go out and pay money before xmas mystifies me - and with the forest leases so many places, in CO at least, close with the most snow of the year in early April...

At the hill we added a few more things. We added a cardboard windshield and pirate flag. We also put a piece of cardboard that nearly covered the bottom and taped it all up. This is key to lower friction on the slushy snow. Unfortunately the flap on the bottom was maybe a foot narrower than the sonotubes.

We went for it and it would have been awesome if we didn’t spin and the flap acted like a brake as it collected snow.

It did float fine and the kids got soaked…
