Is this your starter marriage? Or going to be?

Smile, thank her, and give her a big hug. You don't have to keep the watch forever.

Just appreciate it man, it is basically just a vehicle to park your money in, enjoy the fact your wife pays enough attention that she landed close to the mark. You won't lose your shirt over the watch, but you could lose your wife over the reaction.

And you should delete this thread, not something I would want her to stumble across if I were you....

Brilliant! I tip my hat...

I'm also still hoping that hard drive & his spouse are solid enough in their relationship to talk this over and arrive at a solution that will leave them both happy.

My Wife knows me better than to get me something expensive as a "surprise gift". For one, if I want something I will let her know that I am buying it for myself. Two, when I want something, she knows I have already researched it to the "Nth" degree and know the exact model, color and size that I want.

It can be a PITA for her around birthday and Christmas, but she manages to always find a little something (no Bobble Head yet) and that suits me just fine. On the flip side she has no problem dropping hints on what she wants and I usually go into "research mode" and get her the more deluxe model than what she was expecting.

Couple of you guys have suggested deleting this thread. I'm not going to ask for it to be deleted. I have been on this site for many years, and respect many peoples opinions here. Other folks have posted about relationship issues, or drama in their life. You guys have set me straight that I was being a jerk, and I accept that. If someone is offended by this thread, then ask for it to be deleted. But perhaps some other person will be facing a similar situation, and find this thread, and learn from my mistake.

Now you can. When they came out the other week, I could not believe prices people paid for them on eBay. $10k for some.

Exchange it for a Speedy Moonwatch. That one holds its value better than other Omegas.

It's your fault for marrying someone
who would spend $10k on a watch
kidding mostly

In its essence it isn't a watch
it is an expression of love
a very expensive and foolish expression

Keep the watch pretend that
you love it almost as much as her
but scold her for buying it without
checking with you first and agree
that neither of you will ever do
anything like that again

lesson learned and just be happy
that someone loves you that much

I was mostly joking of course. I don't think you can get them for retail quite yet but swatch said they will make as many as people want (so a imperial crap ton). THere was pandamonium at the swatch boutiques I heard. A brilliant marketing thing from omega, be the opposite of rolex instead of trying to mimic them.

I think they are silly and fun at an easy price point. I'll buy one when they come down to retail. Maybe get the "mission to uranus" just because.

OK, I'm just "spitballing" here but I think there may be a way around this.

Explain to her how fickle guys can be and how we change our minds and our outlooks on many things. What may have seemed to have been the perfect watch yesterday now seems a bit large and ostentatious today.

You understand and appreciate her thoughtful and sentimental gift, but now, as time goes on, you'd rather have something more practical that you could wear more often so that every time you checked your watch, it was as if you were being reminded of the affirmation of her love.

We all have regrets in life and things we have done that can never be taken back. But one thing's for sure, you will never have second thoughts or regrets about your decision to marry her.

Now go get the watch you really want and you can thank me later!

I've always liked the uniqueness of the MilGauss. It's certainly a nice watch! I bought a two tone Submariner second hand about 10 years ago for $5,500. I only wear it occasionally but I'm so glad I decided to buy when I did. The same watch is around 15k right now. (pre-ceramic)

The high end watch market is just bonkers. What was an $50,000 watch now sells for well over $100,000 and there seems to be no end in site. I've been lusting after a "Lange & Söhne" for some time but there in the stratosphere. (how does 60k+ for a stainless steel watch sound? )
