Not seeing the engine is pretty lame. But, same on the 992...so, it is what it is
that seems to sum it up pretty well.

One more thing: if or when I get an allocation for a new GT4 (sadly not a GT4RS), my Cayman will be for sale.

I took a look at local dealer websites to see what caymans are going for. Found one base model. No fancy options. Just basic with manual. $75,880. That’s outrageous.

Is this dealer mark up typical?

https://www.porschebuffalo.com/new/Porsche/2022-Porsche-718+Cayman-de8dc4930a0e09a91b4e6e9a7b2cc163.htm

If so, I’ll be rethinking what to buy, used vs new

If you order, price should be msrp or below. Used is market price which right now is over msrp for a year or two old. New on the lot seems dependent on the dealers’ policy.

For the first time ever, I went to Porsche website and built a T. Basically just added the Bose sound system and deleted the side stripes and messed around with colors. The std options for the T are good. Not sure getting a base model only to build it back up to a T makes any sense at all, especially since I believe the T comes with the short shift kit and is lowered.

Anyway, I’m wondering do any of you have the Sport-Tex interior? Do you like it?

My wife has the Sport-Tex in her Boxster. I kind of like it, but it's definitely different than anything Porsche has offered before. It doesn't get too hot in the sun and appears as though it will wear and clean super well. I can see how some might think it's "plastic-y" though. I'd strongly encourage you to try and look at one in person before you place an order, just in case you hate it.

I was wondering if it was a Porsche version of alcantara (faux suede), but I don't think it is.

I did the same thing. I'm assuming the T might be a tiny bit lighter than the base, or maybe the pull straps to open the doors are more about making you feel racy. The T seems great. There are two things on the T that I don't like. I think I'd rather have all leather. I don't like that you're stuck with 20" wheels. I think I did the same thing when I went to the configurator, change the color, add bose, remove the stripes.

I had never gone to website to build anything, but that is pretty fun. The Sport-Tex looks interesting....

Did you spec the Adaptive sport seats? My RS has carbon buckets and while they are great for spirited driving, it can be difficult to get in and out.

Sport seats, no. I just messed around a little on the site to see how it works and to see what I might be tempted to add

I gotta say though doing some reading on the 718 forum, it seems people are waiting a year or more or having trouble getting an allocation. I’m very confused about the whole process and I read today that the 718 is only being built through 2024 and then no more ICE. Not sure how true that is though. I don’t think I can make this happen before then and may just have to buy a used model when I’m ready

I've sat in those, and the adjustability is fantastic. My car has the "Sport Plus 2-way" seats, and I find them comfy and supportive (more supportive than the regular seats).

I assume the adaptive seats weigh a lot more than the sport plus 2-way. I think I'd like the buckets, but I don't think my missus would like them.

The world has gone insane. I looked at Porsche dealers in the Dallas/Ft Worth area, Houston, and Austin. I think there were 0 Caymans, 2 Boxsters, 1 911. and 1 GT3. But, there were Panameras, Cayennes, Macans, and a couple/few Taycans.

Yes it has. Saw news this morning California trying to ban sale of new cars that are gas powered by 2035. People are thinking ahead and getting what they want now (I am too), plus the transport ship caught fire and other parts shortages……there’s basically nothing at the Porsche dealers here except SUV.

One positive, every spring when I take my 911 out for the first time I say the same thing…..no way I could ever sell this. Haven’t had a chance to get it out yet but I would expect the same emotion once again. That will cool off my urgency to get a cayman maybe

we purchased a new 2019 Cayman S. love the car. we didn't bother getting the 18 way adjustable seats, wife and i like the same seating position just move it back and forth as she is short. we opted for extended leather, 20 wheels painted black, premium colour (lava orange) no sport chrono,(waste in my opinion) sport plus seats, premium sound system, LED head lights ,and some other things that i cant remember. i will advise you on 1 thing. the standard chrome interior bits like the cup holder shifter surround and key surround will likely drive you crazy. around 12-4 on sunny days the reflection will for sure hit your eyes. after spending $3000 CDN we now have it all replaced with black leather. would have been much cheaper to change this at time of ordering. so if anyone need any dash bits in chrome i got them. Oh ya, the wife just had to have the deviated orange stitching and the key painted body colour.

I love the lava orange. I can see how the chrome would be irritating. It sounds like a good looking car.
I love the sport chrono remapping of the throttle.

I've been saying it for years.
The Cayman is more 911 than a 911.
But the base Cayman is too powerful at 300hp.

BRZ has 225hp on 2700 lbs.
Base Cayman has 300hp on 3100lbs.
The numbers speak for themselves.

Have you test driven a Toyota 86?
It is even more 911 than a Cayman.
Best handling manual RWD non-turbo pure sports car built in the last 30 years.

And you can get a brand new one for like $28k.

I have not. There is also the new Nissan Z. I have considered trying to become more interested in these cars and I have no doubt they satisfy but the Cayman has become an obsession.

To be honest, I could just live with my GTI and be done with the whole car thing

Drove a base 718 for about 45 minutes. I wasn't in love with the 4 banger.
