Not many cars beat the torsional rigidity of a Cayman:

David, I just went to the site to build a new GT4RS for grins and I see it suffers the same malady as the rest of the RS lineup, PDK only.

That would put me solidly in the GT4 camp so I could get the six speed and the reason I think you see the 997 gen RS's continuing to climb in value, as the last of the manual RS's.

Now if you want the GT4RS just for super fast track times, then I see the value in the PDK.

I have been tracking my Cayman lately and want the fast shifting PDK when I replace it. Plus my wife's clutch ankle is held together with titanium plates so she's not fond of manual shifting anymore.

RS's are not intended as street cars
RS is for racing.. RennSport, the word says it.

And since Racing is about performance, no holds bar , no compromise results they have PDK because that's the best performing gearbox..

Anything else would makes no sense whatsoever.

Yes, every SINGLE RS is only for the track.

What a joke, if you think that is the case you are seriously mistaken.

And as I own one, I know what it stands for.

Makes sense David, then I hope you get your allocation!

It's not only for the track, but that really is what it's designed for.

Porsche is very clear about it's design purpose
And they market it as such :

"A razor-sharp track tool. A highly agile mid-engine concept with 4.0-litre displacement and a six-cylinder naturally aspirated engine. Six individual throttle valves for a direct response. A high-revving concept that easily scratches the 9,000 mark. An output of 368kW (500PS). Rational? Not always. Perfect? Always."

"Like every modern RS model, the new 718 GT4 RS is exclusively available with the Porsche dual clutch transmission (PDK). This gearbox shifts through its seven gears at lightning speed and guarantees maximum performance.

And they will sell them as fast as they can Stijn to the group of people that want the bragging rights of having the latest and greatest. I am sure there are folks like David that will track them, as they should be used. But a lot of them will also see plenty of street use.

What always cracks me up are the RS's that are marketed as never having been on the track. Hell mine was picked up in Germany and went straight to the Ring by the first owner.

Well sure, the point is and remains, they are designed, for the track

that other people do other things with em once bought, is besides the point.

Cucumbers are for eating
Some people do other things with em, that's their choice and problem, but they are sold and marketed as food not as sex toys.,

Same with RSes.. Designed, marketed and Sold, no compromise, for the track. As such they have the Competion wing, all the bells and whistles for track use, which means PDK

I do not disagree with any of your comments, but I do wonder then why the older manual transmission cars are selling for the price of the new PDK ones if everyone is just interested in a no compromise track tool.

Not everyone is just interested in a no compromise track tool, but Porsche when designing the RS decided that the RS is the no compromise track tool, and others who like a manual, should look elswhere.

Those older Manual transmission cars, what are you comparing them against.

981Base vs 718 Base, eg 2.0 Fart 4
981S vs 718S eg 2.5 Fart 4
981 GTS vs teh 718 GTS with the fart 4

Surely no 981 has a second hand price of a GTS 4.0 or GT4 4.0 ?

Best handling manual RWD non-turbo pure sports car built in the last 30 years.

And you can get a brand new one for like $28k.

Or, maybe the miata and boxsters are better...

This is getting off track but: a friend of mine with a GT3RS went to a cars and coffee a few weeks ago. There were 6, that's right 6, other GT3RS' there. After the GTG the 6 other drivers invited my buddy to lunch. He said he'd pass because he's heading to the track, but then he invited them to the track instead of lunch. They took him up on it and he gave them a ride around the track in his GT3RS. They were amazed and 3 of them showed up to the next PCA DE in their RS'!

I'm probably getting this story a bit wrong in case any person's involved in this story read this but you get the idea. I'd guess few of the RS' built ever get on the track.

Was it PDK or manual? What didn’t you like? Was it the turbo you didn’t like?

PDK

I didn't like the torque delivery with the turbo. I would opt for a 6. Maybe I'm biased about 6 cylinders and flat Porsche engines. I preferred the power delivery of my old SC....much less power though.
