you ever lose a tooth filling? (and Moderna Vaccine)

i was flossing last night. one gap has been troublesome. it kept slicing my floss all week. so i thought a tooth had cracked. well, i think it was a loosening filling.

last night i absentmindedly went after it with some floss. when i pulled the floss out, i felt resistance so natually i pull harder..POP! i felt my filling pop out of my tooth.

i froze and waited for the shooting pain. nope. no pain. i can fill the giant cavity. i am eating "soft", and i have left a panicked voicemail to Jodie, my dental reception lady. i hope she can squeeze me in. i cerntainly cannot wait for my May 13 appointment. any experiene in this matter? is it gonna start hurting? i have an occasional dull ache, with tempurature drinks. cold and hot.

on a side note: i took my 4th vaccine dose Monday. my doctor contacted me and said i can get it since i am over 50. boo and yay(?). i kid you not, when i went everyone was in their 80's and 90's. pushing walkers, canes, etc. even the nurse asked me if i was over 50!! she was super cute and looked like BeckyG, so after that compliment i didnt even feel the jab. i have been all Phizer up till now. i opted to try Moderna. exactly 24 hours later, it hit me. body aches and a fake fever. chills, etc, but my body temp was perfect. and last nights dreams bordered on hallucinogenic.

except for the hole in my tooth, i feel pretty good!!

It'll cause extreme headaches but I'm not going to tell you which one, vaccine or lost filling...

I'm waiting on a "booster" until they offer the latest iteration that targets variants. I read that Moderna released findings of their variant specific dose a day or so ago.

I had a small filling pop out. I never had pain, but then the filling was really small. I think it was months before I got it fixed.

It probably depends upon where the filling is and how close it gets to the nerve. I'm sure that's why you're noticing the impact of hot/cold drinks.

My guess is that if it's not already hurting, it's not going to hurt unless you start chewing rocks, glass, or nuts and bolts.

Interesting. I've had 3 shots, but haven't thought about a fourth yet. I don't think its time since I got the third in Nov. I'll probably do what you did and go with Moderna since mine have also all be Pfizer. I think my wife switched it up on the third.

Hope you get in before your next scheduled dental appointment. After getting vaccinated, you're certain to not survive until then--just do your own research and you'll see!!

I had a pretty good size filling pop out last year. No pain at all. I did get some dental wax to put in there while I waited for my dental appointment. Only had to wait a couple of days. You can get dental wax at the drugstore.

I wouldn't worry too much about getting food in the cavity.
The dentist will drill, grind, and probe to make sure it's ready for the new filling.

Cliff....

There are OTC products you can buy to help with any tooth/gum pain.

Two of them, for example, are:

https://www.orajel.com/en/products/adult-oral-care/4x-medicated-for-toothache-and-gum-cream

https://www.anbesol.com/products/?gclsrc=aw.ds&gclsrc=ds

And there are others. They all help. You can consult your medical/dental provider for more info. Good luck!

Interesting. I'd never heard of it before.

I have a dentist appointment on the 28th. Another corner chipped off of a rear molar. As a kid, all my molars were filled in by an unethical dentist. He wanted to make money, I guess, and told my parents they all had to be filled. I protested to my mother there wasn't any cavities in the centers of all my molars. She as usual, told me I wasn't a dentist & to be quiet and go to the appointments. As result of the molars having large filiings in the centers, the sides have been breakiing down over the years requiring caps.

I also got my fourth vaccination Monday. No side effects whatsoever. I can feel where I got the injection if I press on it, but that's all.

had a few,, you'll need some drilling , possibly a root canal and a crown ,, depends on the size ,, they usually pop out due to more decay below them.

yikes. root canal!! i hope not. if so, i am getting a gold one.

thankfully, i am double insured. my wife's insurance picks it up, when my insurance runs out of funds. my implant cost me $500 out of pocket which according to my buds, is unheard of.

My childhood dentist did the same. I think it was somewhat common in those days.(50's)
Dentistry has come a long ways. Esp how they can make a crown or bridge while you wait.

It really depends upon the filling. Teeth are like M&Ms, a hard shell with a soft center. Once a tooth has been drilled, the hard coating is compromised and chewing food causes them to flex and often eventually crack. In my case, the cracking wasn't bad, so the old filling was removed and replaced.

Pharmacies sell dental repair paste. It will glue a filling or a crown back in. I do not leave on international trips without it. The stuff is designed to be temporary and your dentist can get this stuff out relatively easily. It even can be used as a complete temporary filling.

If you still have the filling, you can use this to put it back in until you can get to a dentist. I expect there is more decay because otherwise it is unlikely that the filling would just pop out.

I’ll find out tomorrow. My dentist is squeezing me in.

Fingers crossed.

If I was ever to be tortured as a means to gather all the worthless knowledge I have, all they would need to do is take me to a dentist and show me the dental chair and I'd spill my guts of all that worthless knowledge.

Can you tell how much I love going to the dentist? The best purchase I have made recently was the Sonicare Fusion toothbrush, my last cleaning was a breeze.

As others have already stated, get the temporary filing stuff from the drug store to tide you over. I always carry some (I think the stuff I have is "Dentemp") as part of my backcountry/first responder kit and have had to break it out more than once over the years. On one memorable occasion a guy on one of my trips cracked a molar on a frozen M&M and we were two days of tough travel from the cars.
