It is the latest oral anti-viral. It was not out when I had Covid. Are you having a serious case?

Pfizer’s next gambit. Hope it works better than their vax. So...what are the side effects? If we don’t hear it on Pelican, we certainly won’t hear it from the “experts”.

Yes and yes. I think it’s keeping me out of the hospital though.

Very awful taste in mouth which is well known. Very bad intestinal issues. Very intense and weird dreams…..that could be Covid though? I was just wondering if anyone else had taken it and what happened.

I don't know anyone who had the Pfizer or the other intravenous anti-viral. I know people who had monoclonal antibodies.

Do you have a "metallic" taste in your mouth? I didn't take Paxlovid but a strong metallic taste is a known side effect of covid as well as Paxlovid.

Get well!

Yea sorta...hard to explain. I can only describe it as a dark, dirty flavor. Sorta like Chet's greasy pork sandwich served in a dirty ash tray

certianly didnt dim your wit. that was funny!

my coworkers wife is coming off the same antiviral. and you know me; i had questions. she said no side affects at all and she felt the covid affects a mere 3 days. she said her doctor told her to retest after her 2 recent negative results because the drug can suppress the results. her work is looking for a third negative. her family didnt catch anything from her.

i hope you feel well soon.

Thanks

I got it from my wife. She bounced back pretty quick. One week after her testing positive, I got symptoms and tested positive.

I have diabetes and asthma and other issues so my doc gave me this med. Good thing because it started quickly moving into my lungs. It has kicked my ass pretty good but slowly improving after 6 days now

both of us vaxxed and boosters since December

Like any drug, Paxlovid has potential side effects.

Some I know of are:
- Metallic taste
- Diarrhea
- Very rarely, liver tox (watch self for jaundice, dark urine, lots of itching, abdominal pain, etc) - this is hardly unique to Paxlovid.

More discussed is that it is incompatible with certain other medications. The ritonavir component in Paxlovid, which slows your body's clearance of the antiviral component nirmatrelvir, also slows clearance of some other drugs, which means those other drugs can build to undesirable levels in your body.

There is a list of those contraindicated drugs, that your doc or pharmacist should have (did?) check. If you're on one, you'd stop taking them (or greatly reduce dose) during the five day Paxlovid course.

I am trying hard to avoid getting Covid, if I did get it I'd be seeking a course of Paxlovid ASAP.

None of this is particularly unusual. Even the ritonavir, which is used in many other drugs for the same purpose. So don't be put off, its just something to watch.

I heard him talking with Jake Tapper on the radio. He said Paxlovid isn't effective unless you take it early, like before you're symptomatic.
